Retaken F on transcript

So I want to attend either UCSB, UCSD, UCD or UCI for Chemical Engineering coming from a CCC, but this semester I took a load of classes too big so I’m not doing very well. Although I have the ability to pass all my classes (all are required courses), they would most likely be C’s which would destroy my GPA. I’m wondering if I should purposely fail the classes so that I could retake them for higher grade (possibly in the future do the Academic Renewal). My GPA would be way higher, but the F’s would show on my transcript. How would it look on my transcript and would it affect their decision to accept me?

Also, I haven’t thought much about grad school, but would this potentially have an effect on that too?

How many Fs?

Well 1 would be given as an Incomplete, then 2 F’s. But I could make something up in additional comments section in the uc app. UC’s only recognize the retaken class gpa wise and they also recognize the academic renewal

Tough one. I would try for Ds or C- and then retake.

@lindyk8 well, it doesn’t really matter because I’d do academic renewal on both. But my question was if it was going to affect my chances of going to a UC

It’s a very tough major to get into. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you.
