I just applied to a bunch of schools using common app essay I wrote during my senior year, and I didn’t get into the school of my choice. Darn! I plan on submitting a transfer application. Would it be too lazy to resubmit the essay I wrote last time to the exact same schools, or should I entirely rewrite them?
While there are no ethical issues with your reusing your application essay in part or in full, there are a few things to bear in mind that might make you want to rethink that strategy.
I’m not an expert on this, but it would seem to me that transfer apps would show a different direction and thought process than a freshman app. Are you not a better writer now than you were a year or two ago? Do you not have a different perspective? How can you apply the knowledge you have gained since high school toward your future educational goals?
It is quite conceivable that they would look at what you had previously submitted (surely it’s still on file). Do you want them to think you were so lazy that you didn’t bother to update your application?
Yeah, you’re right. Not to mention the exact same person would be reading it and I’m sure he would recognize my name…to be honest, I don’t even know why I asked I’m gonna have to rewrite an entire essay. Thank you!
