Colleges don’t share essays with other universities correct? I got deferred from cornell ed and I think my essay was the strongest part of my application so I’m using it for other schools. the other school I’m using it for has practically the same prompt so the essay still answers the prompt and matches after I make a few changes. I just wanted to make sure that I don’t get in trouble for re using an essay.
They do not share any information. You can re-use your essays. In fact, most students do just that. It is too much work to write entirely new essays from scratch for every place on your application list.
Just be sure to have someone else proof-read it before you send it off so that you don’t say “College X is the best place for my to study Y” when the essay is actually headed to College Z, and the major field there is called W instead of Y.
“Recycling” (adapting) essays is the norm and won’t cause any problems, @CCSenioritis
@marvin100 @happymomof1 Thanks! I’ll just reuse them and alter it for each school. And yes I have an editor that will look through them for any flaws regarding mentioning a wrong school name haha.
I agree with the others…reusing is the norm. One exception though—the “Why this school” essay. These should be unique as stated on another thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-essays/1842185-recycling-why-x-college-essays-or-no.html#latest
While the why this school essay should be unique, my younger son found an approach that he used for most of them all based on the same lead in. At least one school commented on the essay, because they thought it was funny.
