About College Essays

I am applying to numerous schools, and I am overwhelmed by the number of essays to write. I have finished a couple for schools with deadlines around the end of this month and early December. I still have many more to write, and I noticed that some of the prompts aren't that different from each other.

Am I able to use an essay that I wrote for a school to apply to another one? If not, am I able to tweak it a little so that I won't have to start anew? Will schools be able to detect the minor differences and penalize me for that?

You are free to reuse essays.

Yeah, knock yourself out. College X won’t see the essays you send to College Y.

However, if you’re talking about something like “Why College X?”, then it’s probably not a good idea to use that essay if you can literally just paste in another college’s name.

I would appreciate as many answers as possible (for validity and certainty) from anyone–who is applying, has applied, knowledgeable about the application process, etc.

Thank you for those who have already answered. (silverturtle, rebeccar)

First silverturtle is a beast (>10,000 posts good job btw) on this forum, so his advice is always valid.

Second, you’re definitely fine to reuse essays especially personal statement type ones.
