“The maker of the ACT college-entrance exam, which has been struggling to contain an international cheating epidemic, is raising its fees for overseas test-takers by $10 to pay for enhanced security.”
What is going on?
If the majority of cheating is confined to South Korea, why in the world would the ACT hike up prices for all international test takers? Why not tax the Koreans only?
A $10 increase for each international test-taker might seem insignificant, but that would translate into AN ADDITIONAL TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR THE ACT ON ONE TESTING DATE, assuming that at least 1 million international students take the ACT in one sitting!
Not to mention the test costs where already significant in many countries - keep in mind average wages would be in $200-800 a month in most countries outside western Europe /Australia.
Since the problem was in ONE country why make everyone pay?
I retract my previous statement and am willing to give ACT the benefit of the doubt.
In fact, I sincerely hope this money is used to track down the bald, greasy-haired principals or test center supervisors the world over who are stealing these tests in advance and selling them to perhaps satiate their pedophilic lusts online or to do God knows what else!
We’re talking about some old potbellied geeks for Christ’s sake, not ISIS or the Sinoloa Cartel!
Just locate them all one by one and send in some military snipers and give Reuters the exclusive.
