I receive a mail from vanderbelt about their campus, does this mean they want me to go to their college? If i apply will i have a higher chance of getting in since i receive that mail about their campus? Does student from other state have a higher chance of getting in?

getting something in the mail means absolutely nothing

What country are you from?

Colleges and universities pay a small fee to obtain data bases of students that may be a fit in their school. Also if you express an interest in them they will send information. The schools cast a wide net to get potential students to consider their institution. I would not put any real value to getting this. Vanderbilt is a very selective school. If you believe you have the credentials to get in and you have researched the school and feel it may be a fit for you, then you should visit or attend one of the “Road Shows”. Good luck and try to enjoy your college search.

Thank you, but is there an advantage for student that immigrate from other country? cause i come from Taiwan which is part of chinese i guess. And is there a higher chance for student not from that state? cause i am from California.
And one last thing, my brother does not fit the stats for UC berkerly, but he got a mail from berkerly that contains the info of berkerly’s info and when he applies he got rejected from UCLA but he made UC berkerly. which i dont know if its cause of the mail or something like that. any know why?

Yes, yes, and UCLA and UC Berk tend to split their applicant pool – sometimes someone is accepted to both, but usually someone only is accepted to one or the other. It didn’t have to do with the mail.

what about ethnicity? does asian count as minority at vanderbilt?

God no; being asian does not count as being a minority anywhere. I surely wish it did.

actually at vandy, asian does count as a minority. There are not that many

kysema10, you clearly don’t go to Vandy. You can’t walk anywhere on campus without running into a pack of Malaysians (except greek row, that is). Asians, like has always been the case for white people, no longer get the benefit of affirmative action for most things.

actually i do go to vandy and I know for a fact that asians are recruited to come to Vandy through Mosaic. Vanderbilt has become a lot more diverse and soon asians wont be recruited. Compared to other schools in the top 20, we have far less asians. But as of now affirmative action does include asians. As far as greek row, no you wont see that many asians, but you will see some black/hispanic kids.

Vandy actively looks for UnderRepresentedMinorities (URMs). As kysema10 pointed out, at most campuses, Asians are actually overrepresented, whereas at Vandy, they’re considered URMs.

so asian count as minority at vandy. Thank you so muck guy.
But what is the average weighted GPA and SAT for Vandy? And what is the best major for vandy? cause i want to major in business.

sorry for adding on, but are indians also considered minorities?

Well, aren’t Indians considered Asians?
