Reviewing the College Mail

Carleton had a few eye-catching, humorous postcards with comic strips about college admissions on the back. They were really, really funny--but probably just for someone so stressed out by the process already. I might even still have them, even though I'm not going there.

Carleton got my award for best mailing. They were the first college I got anything from, and I was so excited I read every word. They were funny and unique. And it worked--they were on my list. I might not have even looked at them, without that.

The problem with most of the ads were that all the colleges said they were unique--all in exactly the same way.

So far I've really liked Vassar and Beloit's viewing guides. Beloit had a picture of someone walking in the rain, with a caption under like, most colleges would only show sunny pictures! And I thought, man, are they trying hard to stand out from the crowd. Vassar's was really informative and sparked my interest. Ohio State's had lots of pictures, which I liked because they tried to make Columbus sound all metropolitan and such.

Believe it or not, Columbus is the 15th largest city in the US and the largest city in Ohio.

LOL about all colleges being similarly unique.

I know Columbus is quite large (I've spent all my life here!) but it's no nyc as it's portrayed. I was thinking in my head, you can't trick me osu with these pictures!

Sorry Celebrian - didn't notice your location!

lol I'm sure if you looked you wouldn't have commented on it being the capital :p

Yesterday we got a humorous justaposition of mail:

Vassar, huge envelope with "READY?" next to the return addy.
MIT, small envelope, with back proclaiming "YOU ARE SO READY!!" <giggle></giggle>

jym, I like the idea of the photo. So far, S is just saving the letters/booklets. All the envelopes and inserts go through the shredder on the way to the compost bin.
