'Reviews' on Explore Bowdoin Sept. 2013?

Good question. My guess is that they keep the visiting kids on a tight leash and super busy since they are minors and the college is fully responsible for them. In addition, usually hosting students for these things are highly screened. Still, it will be interesting to hear the answers. The other fly ins my daughter is going to are Sunday-Mon/Tues. It is interesting that this one is over a full weekend.

Let’s see how those who went in Sept. respond!

goblue2018, for the Sept program Bowdoin had a sub free weekend so current students were not drinking – there was a party at the African-American student union that Explore Bowdoin kids were invited to - my D attended had fun no drinking that she saw. She heard from current students that Bowdoin has an average amount of drinking but kids who don’t are absolutely not pressured and totally integrated into social life. Her host didn’t drink at all and was loving Bowdoin. My D is at WOW (Williams) now coming home Satuday, same schedule for Amherst, and she told me it’s bc they don’t want the prsopies exposed to too much craziness. Kudos to Bowdoin for taking on the issue and for hosting a 4 day visit!

sub free= substance free

What kind of party was at the african american student union? was it open to all students or only members of the african american union+prospective students? thanks

It was a party hosted by the AA student union and all the Explore Bowdoin students were invited and I’m sure Bowdoin students too. Not just for AA students at all if that’s what you’re asking. My D found Bowdoin to be very integrated. As I said earlier she thought there was a lot of diversity on campus. She’s at Williams right now and loves it a lot also but early reports are that Bowdoin food wins by a mile and the Bowdoin dorms are cushier!

"Middlebury students aren’t any preppier than Bowdoin students–they all buy their clothes from the same LL Bean and Patagonia catalogs. " LOL!

Bowdoin students DO NOT buy their clothes from the LL Bean catalog. They drive 10 minutes to the 24 hour LL Bean store in Freeport!

Or, to keep it on a light note, my kid and others simply bought their clothes at local second hand stores. I wouldn’t be surprised if he found some LL Bean and Patagonia items in the racks for pennies on the dollar! Mostly clothes didn’t matter as much as other aspects of one’s personality.

Just returned from Family Weekend at Midd. Absolutely no LL Bean noted. Some Patagonia, significant amount of American Eagle Outfitters, even more significant amount of Middlebury sweatshirts, black leggings and Nike style running shorts.
