Thanks! I was planning on calling, but also hoping someone here might weigh in! I know they are at Unifieds, and we've thrown the NY unifieds around, but she is seeing this asher chance to get a feel for the campus and the kids. We're kind of making the audition process part of the decision tree.

sarahlsmom: I can provide the definitive answer. NotMamaRose is correct. When students audition for the Musical Theatre degree, they are simultaneously considered for the Acting degree. Actually, MT auditioners are considered for the following placements:

BFA in Musical Theatre
BFA in Musical Theatre with a Concentration in Dance
BFA in Acting
BA in Theatre
BM in Vocal Performance (Music)
BA in Music
Dance Minor

No need to make two trips. Hope this helps.

doctorjohn, I thought I would call tomorrow to find out, but perhaps you know whether the essay topics for scholarship consideration are up to date. There are 5 I believe from which to choose. At some point, it seemed that they might be changed.

catera, I think that the application and essay question for scholarship (which is right there on the regular application now, online) are up to date. I say this because my D started filling out her online app in late August and what's there has now changed. The online app now explains that if a kid wants to apply for a scholarship, she can submit an essay on various topics (listed right there on the online app) and that part was not there when my D began the process.

I thought I would make sure, because they are the same ones that were there when I posted on September 1 asking if they were up to date. Maybe they actually went up that day if they weren't there the end of August. My D had printed them out then but had not started the actual writing.

I just talked to Debbie Byrne in our Admissions Office. The new application forms went online yesterday, September 19. So if you apply online now, you will see the form which includes the scholarship essay prompts. There are three of them, the last one of which is "Write an essay of your choice." The two others are previous prompts (numbers 2 and 5).

What this means is that if you've already written a scholarship essay, you do not have to throw it out. Debbie tells me that the College will accept an essay written to any of our earlier prompts.

Hope this helps. Post again or write to me directly if you have any questions.

Oh boy - now I'm really confused. Is this the link for the Scholarship Application? This still has the 5 prompts. Is there another app I'm missing?

cartera, the easiest way to handle this, I think, is through the regular application. You go through and toward the end, there is a paragraph or so about the scholarship. It gives you the prompts for the essays and a link. I may well be wrong, but it appeared to my daughter and me that this was an all-in-one way to apply for the scholarship, because it instructs the student about the essay and such right there, and the activities list that the scholarship app asks for already are listed in the regular application. (I think it says something like check here if you are applying for the scholarship, and then send the essay directly to Otterbein's admissions office.) Of course, it behooves your kid or you to call or email the Admissions Office (Debbie Byrne is very nice) and she can tell you if I am correct about this! Good luck.

Getting back here late, but thanks to everyone for answering all of my questions! Can't wait to come out there, and looking forward to meeting some CCers at auditions.

Just got an email saying that after you submit the online application, a prompt will appear that includes the scholarship application with essay options. My D ended up writing one based on the quote she chose for her senior yearbook. She just got inspired by it. I hope it really doesn't matter if you choose your own topic rather than using one of the suggested ones.

That's weird, because my D submitted hers (with an essay) last week and no prompt came up. The questions were just part of the online application and she simply cut and pasted her essay (also on a topic of her choice) into the window provided. Hmm. Curiouser and curiouser.

Yes, it was like that last week because my D actually put hers in but had not submitted it yet because we are working through some audition date issues. Today, after the email, I checked and it is no longer there. I'm sure either way is fine as long as it gets there.

Either way will be fine, I'm told. It turns out that putting the scholarship essay on the application webpage was creating some confusion--with a significant drop in applications--so they've separated the essay. That's essentially the way it was before. There's no need to worry about it, however, since one of the options has always been an essay of your choice.

Just to clarify: the essay is required for scholarships, not for admission.

Hope this helps.

Doctorjohn....Just want to say that the people in admissions have been most helpful with this, as well as the lady scheduling auditioins (my d has been in contact with her, so i don't know her name). Please let them know that their efforts are much appreciated!

Weird things happening. I just got an email thanking my D for her online application, but she hasn't sent it yet. I called the school and they don't have her in the system yet and they don't know where the email came from. Anyone else getting emails? The woman I spoke to thinks that the company handling the apps may have sent it out by mistake but the return address is admissions@otterbein.edu

My heart was in my throat when I saw the email because I thought I must have sent it by mistake when I looked at it yesterday with regard to the scholarship app.
