Congratulations SCU!!

From the San Jose Mercury News:

Noelle Lopez, a senior at Santa Clara University, has won a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, the first awarded to a student from the Jesuit college in the heart of Silicon Valley.

A Latina from Tucson, Ariz., Lopez is a philosophy major and captain of the women's track team, for which she runs cross-country races.

She is one of 32 American winners selected from 769 applicants who were endorsed by 207 colleges.

British philanthropist Cecil Rhodes created the international scholarships in 1902 for students who show excellent academic achievement, character, leadership potential and athletic vigor. The scholarships typically average about $50,000 per year for postgraduate study at Oxford University.

Lopez is expected to enroll at Oxford after graduating from Santa Clara this spring.

I read it today in the paper. Great honor for this student...and the school deserves some credit too!!
