Rice LGBT clubs and student centers

How active are the clubs? Are most of the gays in them? are there a lot of events? Also, what happened to the LGBT student center? I saw that there used to be one, but now it's gone.

Also really interested in this

I can’t fully answer your question as I am not a student and do not have a student with these interests, but I will share what opinion/observation I have. Runallday this definitely seems to be a concern for you as I’ve seen you ask the question in different ways, different times both on this forum as well as others. You should probably visit the schools that are in serious contention.

In general, most schools are socially liberal and Rice is no exception. I am aware that there are organized LGBT get-togethers, but can’t say how many. I am aware of there being several LGBT students on the Rice campus, but again, can’t say how many.

I think that the Rice students tend to be very welcoming of all groups in all organizations and so there may not be such an obvious well-defined group of only LGBT students. There are many socially inclusive opportunities that you will make friends and have things to do and be able to share in your interests outside of being LGBT.

I have no doubt that you will find your LGBT “group” but I think that you will find that your friends are everyone.

I read on the Rice website (somewhere) that there is (by request) specific housing for LGBT. I don’t know how that really works out, so if you are interested, you should call Rice.

I hope this helps.

I just graduated, but none of my 15ish closest LGBT friends were involved in LGBT-specific clubs. I agree with the above; while these groups do exist (and they got a float in Houston’s Art Car Parade with our mayor - a lesbian Rice alum - a few years ago!), most LGBT students find other clubs and social groups that they devote more time to.
