Rice is on par with many of the Ivies in certain areas. It is working hard to achieve the same in others. One of its advantages, which is comparable to Dartmouth’s, is its undergraduate focus and dedication. Harvard, Stanford, et al., don’t have that.

The Rice students in this thread don’t strike me as being terribly confrontational. If anything, it’s Mr. happymedstudent here who seems to be seeking validation. We all know Stanford is a good school. There’s no need to barge into a thread in the Rice forum talking about Rice’s rankings and rattle off the reasons you think Rice is inferior to some other school. If happymedstudent is indeed connected to Stanford, I find his maturity level disappointingly low.

Are you trying to say I’m a HYS law reject? I never applied to those schools.

Don’t let one internet ■■■■■ ruin your impression of wonderful schools like Rice, Penn, etc.

Hey ■■■■■ (err happy med dude)
You are correct, I was waitlisted when I applied to Stanford. I do agree that Stanford is a wonderful school in many aspects and its ranking is well deserved. What got to me was your statement that Stanford was superior to Rice in every single way. A claim like that doesnt even deserve to be taken seriously.

Of course I cant prove my football recruitment story, but even if I was still in Arkansas I doubt I would exert the effort. Remember that averages and medians describe a population. That population might include every athlete on Stanford’s campus and therefor is inappropriate to dispute the validity of my story.
Question the applicability of every statistic.
I’m done feeding the ■■■■■.

how would i prove it short of taking pics of his recruitment letter and report card?

Oh, and I do admit my above posting is flawed.
I misread the stat and thought the pop to be stanford athletes in general rather than just the fb team.

My experience had led me to believe that stanford would let just about any outstanding football player in despite their academic record. But, I admit that my attitude towards Stanford athletics was mislead.

I think Stanford is obviously a spectacular school with the stats to prove it, but I still think it is absurd to claim it superior to Rice in every single way. The person who types that is either incredibly brainwashed to worship prestige, or is a bored ■■■■■.

And to any prospective Rice applicants, don’t let a ■■■■■ ruin your opinion. If you are lucky enough to get into Stanford AND you feel like it is right for you, by all means go. But give Rice a shot too. Pretty much everyone I know here loves their school (it’s sometimes even a little annoying!)

Sigh. Arguing about ranking can go on forever…

I don’t believe that this conversation is reflective of the Rice atmosphere in general - it’s a really laid back place in a lot of ways and I’ve never seen Rice students sit around and try to prove why Rice is better than x college. Rice students do have a tendency to call out statements that they feel need to be challenged (such as “Stanford is better than Rice in every way imaginable.”) which is why this has probably gone on so long.

It may have gone on so long because of the the ■■■■■, who engaged in this same pattern in many college threads. He seems to be gone now.
