Son has unofficially picked Stanford over Rice, but loved both schools. Rice's smaller size, lower tuition, college system, and location IN a major city (as opposed to NEAR one) are plusses. Stanford's English department (likely major) seems stronger than Rice's; approximately one-third of Stanford students (like son) don't drink, so social atmosphere seems a good match; sister attends there. There are good arguments for choosing either school.

well, with rice and Stanford, u cant go wrong... i wish ur Son best of luck tho :)

i have a similar? choise to make. i am interested in biomedical engineering and am female. i live in so. calif and am trying to decide between Rice and Brown. Brown is soooo far away. I have visited both. HELP!

klauberkid, please dont hijack this thread

Stanford is amazing. I mean its 5th in the nation and in California. I might go to Rice but i regret not applying to Stanford and if i would have been accepted to Stanford i would have taken it over Rice for sure.

deadhead: It's pretty hard to beat Rice (one of my favorites) but if costs are comparable, go to Stanford. Even if the programs are equal (though Stanford is generally higher rated) spending 4 years in Northern California will stretch your horizons. VERY strong Grad programs at Stanford, too, and you'll have a leg-up being admitted since you will already know the professors and have their recommendations.

Great campus, great sports, awesome people.
