I'm having the same problem.

What do you like about Rice that you are worried you can't find at Stanford?

I'm facing the same decision...I'm wondering about the differences in being premed at either institution if anyone can elaborate on that specifically.

If you pick Rice over Stanford you'll only be benefiting those unfortunate enough to be on the waitlist...do yourself and your bank account a favor by going to stanford ;)

You won't be doing your bank account a favor by going to Stanford...

I myself applied to both, but treated Rice as more of a backup in case I didn't get into Stanford. So I lucked out, really.

Well Stanford is actually cheaper. I think the main thing keeping me from going to Stanford outright is that I can run track at Rice and the Stanford coaches keep ignoring my emails.

Hey, take this from a guy who is going to stanford for grad school (chemistry) and ran 4 years at a D1 school. Go to rice for the running. Since you are going pre-med anyway, while stanford might look slightly better academically, it is really what you make out of it, and running track at rice will more than make up for the slight edge you would get by going to stanford. Also, many of my best memories in college are with the guys I ran with and being part of a team. Intramurals just aren't the same.

When I visited Rice I wound up hanging out with a bunch of pre-meds, and they seemed really overwhelmed, and told me that the program's good, but there's so much classwork that there's never time for actual experience/volunteer work in the field. I didn't speak to Stanford pre-meds, so I can't say how they compare, but the pre-meds at Rice didn't seem to love it there.

I know of people walking on to the track team at Stanford. Contact the coach or something, because I think you'll be able to (effortlessly) be part of the track team at Stanford it you want to be.

What a current Stanford freshman said in the Stanford 2011 Facebook group:

"Actually, it's quite easy to walk on. I run Track, but I wasn't recruited, I simply sent an emaIl to the coach, saying I wanted to run and my times, and then we worked out the details. I can't say for sure what it's like with the other teams, but I'd imagine it's just as easy."

I'm not premed, I want to do engineering, I dont know where premed came from. I think I may go to Stanford but not absolutely sure.

Stanford....

^
somehow your post reminds me of homer simpson when he said
"hmmm... donut..."
like
"hmmm... stanford..."

i'm having the same problem too
I have a full ride to Rice, however, Stanford has been my number one choice for a long time. My parents say that they don't mind paying for Stanford since it's the best school I got into, but I can't help but feel guilty. Rice seems like such an awesome school too. I'd suggest re-visitng both if you're torn and ultimately go where you feel most comfortable (that's what I plan on doing, anyway). My vote is for Stanford, you could always transfer if you change your mind.

^^
Wow.. full ride. That makes the decision 100x harder. Good luck with your decision, and with your smarts, you'll be a success at either school!

definitely go to rice
