Hi
I got accepted to both Rice and WashU and I want to do Pre-med. Which school is the best if I eventually want to be accepted to Medical School
Both are great schools for pre-med. I am sure your could probably use google and find pre-med acceptance rates from both but I would think they’d both be fine. Is there a financial difference between the 2 or anything else that you like or don’t like about either?
My D is a freshman at Rice and chose it over Wash U. For whatever reason she just didn’t connect with Wash U as she did with Rice. She really like the residential colleges at Rice. She had a friend tell her recently the atmosphere at Wash U is more competitive than at Rice but that was just one person’s opinion. I remember noticing a lot of kids studying together when we were at Wash U and I think they have a collaborative reputation. I think in many ways they are very similar campus-wise. Both are pretty campuses situated in large cities but next to high end neighborhoods and absolutely don’t feel like city campuses. The Wash U campus felt small to my daughter. Have you visited either?
Whichever one leaves you with no debt. If it’s both of them, the one where you will get the best grades- what kind of environment do you do your best work in?
thank you @PrdMomto1 . We haven’t visited Rice. But after talking to several people and doing research going to pick Rice
While you can’t go wrong with either school, my family really has been happy with Rice so I’m also excited to hear when other students decide it’s a good fit for them too. The upperclassman at Rice are super welcoming and really want the freshman to have a good experience. Becoming an O-Week advisor is a very competitive process and it’s heart-warming to see that 500 - 600 kids are excited to give up a week of their summer each year to welcome the freshman. They promote a “culture of care” which is really no joke. My D has had upperclassmen reach out to her since she’s been home just to see how she’s doing, offer advice on classes next year, etc. Have you found your way to the discord server the upperclassmen have been hosting for incoming students? It’s a great place to get your questions answered.
Congrats on both acceptances! They are both great schools. DS #1 wasn’t premed but loved every minute of his 4 years at Rice. Enjoy!
