When they state the estimated length for the essays, I would assume they mean single spaced. However, on common app, the supplemental essay needed to be double spaced.

Which one is it?

Thanks.

Is the deadline of Richmond Scholars 12-15?

Richmond Scholars application deadline was December 15th, but the supplement form says that the supplement is due January 2nd.

I applied to UR a couple of years ago, so wait until you hear the definite answer from UR Admissions, but the Common App essay, I believe, is 500 words. The UR supplement says 1-2 pages double spaced, which is around 500 words, as well, I believe.

The essay I'm referring to is only distributed to students who qualified as RS semifinalists.

It sounds like you already found out you are a Richmond Scholar semi-finalist? If so, congratulations and good luck - When did you find out?

Thanks, I was informed about a week and a half ago.

Hello all--

I don't have the document at home over the holidays to know what it says about length, but we're not real uptight about it. Each designation's submission requirements are a little bit different, and the semi-finalist info tells you the desired length. But no one is going to do a word count and stop reading if you go over. But if it is 16 pages when we ask for about 2, then that is too much. Use your judgment. This is not a "reading the directions" contest. Double spaced is preferred because it is easier on the reader, but if you single space, no big deal.

Richmond Scholar semi-finalists will continue to be notified in batches well into January, so if you haven't heard from us yet, that doesn't mean you won't be chosen. We were only able to get so many read before the holidays. But we'll be back at it as soon as we re-open on January 5. Each batch has a different submission deadline in order to give everyone the same amount of time to prepare their materials, regardless of when they were notified, and frankly because it helps us to stagger the work flow.

Good luck to all.
