Right track for the top-tiers?

Well I just started my freshman year (or starting on Wednesday) and I was wondering if these courses are not too bad for top-tier colleges. (Harvard, Columbia, Brown, U. Chicago, Yale, etc...)

Math 10 Honors

English 9 Honors

GeneralPhysEd

Earth Science (non-honors)

AP World History

Design And Drawing (DDP - Design and Drawing for Producton)

Computer Programming C++

Computer Multimedia

French 2 (non-honors)

I was orginally taking Global History 9 Honors instead of AP World History but since the school said it was mandatory I take Earth Science (I didn't care about science in 7th so I didn't get Earth Science in 8th grade) instead of Biology Honors like the rest of the honors science students I thought it would be a good idea if I do really well in AP World History as a freshman to make up for the fact I am not in French and science honors until 10th grade.

Because of this whole science contraversy instead of taking 10-11 AP's I will probably be taking 9 throughout my whole high school career.

Freshman -
AP World History

Sophomore -
AP European History

Junior -
AP Computer Science
AP English Language
AP U.S History

Senior -
AP U.S Gov't/Politics
AP Calculus BC
AP English Literature
AP Biology

About 9 AP's total unless I fit Chem and Physics C in there but I don't see that happening. I'll ask my counselor when school starts on Wednesday.

Getting accepted into the elite universities is not all about maxing out on APs. You need to stand out among the many thousands of other kids doing the same. The key into being accepted into a top tier university is developing a passion for something and becoming truly outstanding at it. What you select (be it scientific research, volunteering, ect.) is up to your individual likes and dislikes.

However, a rigorous courseload doesn't hurt, and yours looks pretty good. They allow freshmen to take AP classes at your school?

The courses are fine and don't worry about the rigor of your freshman year's courses. It is good you have all your classes planned out but trust me, that list will probably change. Your interests change in high school and you don't want to kill yourself in AP classes that just aren't suited for you. Plus, there are TONS of other things that go with getting into college like test scores, EC's etc.

Just get a good start and come back in 2 years.

Yeah, luckily my school (Syosset Senior High School) let's us take only AP World History. Thanks for the insight sinistercharity and natew6388. I REALLY appreciate it.

I can't even call you a "loser freshman" b/c you aren't one yet...you're pathetic...get a life and some ECs and yeah, come back in two years. Are you Asian? Don't make any assumptions about what schools you'll be looking to get into 3 years from now...you could end up in state college for all you know.

If I didn't have a life, I would be taking honors French and Biology Honors.

I am not asian I am Bangladeshi which probably is considered South Asian but whatever floats your boat.

It's always good to think ahead and if you we're smart like your name suggests (Hint = MD) you would know that too.

if you can, take the hardest possible course load.

to me, you are taking 3 top tier classes, and 4 "regular classes". You already skipped the honors bio and french.

The students at top colleges are top students. The schools you listed are reaches for pretty much everyone, and you are already putting yourself at a disadvantage.

When you apply, the college will see that you opted out of 2 harder clasess for two easier ones. IMO that hurts.

Why not take bio h and french h? You're already taking french, get the most out of what your school offers.

Listen, you're in your freshman year. Enjoy yourself. Make alot of friends. The best things you can do in freshman year is NOT ruin your gpa (I did to a minor extent) and get heavily involved in activities that you love which you will eventually lead especially if you expect to get into these schools. You can't get into Harvard based on your freshman year, but you might get rejected because of mistakes you made during it.

To ChaseD13 - I can't take Honors Biology because it is mandatory I take Earth Science which was an 8th grade honors course which I did not get reccomended for. I am not in French Honors because of the fact I didn't even like French in 8th grade and did not even care about French until the last minute which I know already was my fault.

The honors science goes like this:

9th - Biology H | 10th - Chemistry H | 11th - Physics H | 12th - AP's

And this is how mine will go:

9th - Earth Science | 10th - Biology H | 11th - Chemistry H | 12th - Physics H and AP's.

I will be 1 year behind everyone whom is in science honors until the 12th grade. Technically those classes aren't available to me but when I go to school on Wednesday I will ask the teacher if I can have French Honors. Since the science thing isn't available to me, maybe colleges will think at least I tried and witht he AP World History in there, they might think I challenged myself wth an AP in the 9th grade and I did very will in it?

I just hope I have a shot so anyone with any insight is welcomed. btw if I don't get french honors this yr I will definitely get it in the 10th grade and easily be up to par with everyone in French.
