So I was wondering the number of AP's needed during junior year to get into UCLA.

I'm currently taking 4 (AP Eng, AP USH, AP Calc, AP Environmental Science) but I'm debating on dropping APES, which would get me down to three for my junior year.

I plan on four AP's senior year, and I'm taking Physics at a Junior College between Junior and Senior year summer...

So...three or four AP's junior year?

APES seems like it is the easier of the AP's, but it might take time away from my other more rigorous courses...

Do you foresee a future in environmental science - aka, do you actually think you'll like the material? If not, I say drop it. A lot of your acceptance is going to depend on GPA, a bit on SATs and then they'll look at your essays. Don't just take this class because of a GPA booster, because it'll be more trouble than it is worth. Personally speaking, I took AP bio, APUSH, Calc AB & the AP eng language exam (which was only the test, I didn't take the class).

i loved my APUSH teacher, along with my AP Bio teacher. I got truly lucky though. My AP bio teacher that year is now at med school in UCSF. Brilliant guy from Cal.

APES is the most BS class in any SGV high school as far as I know. 3 APs is fine for UCLA; most people I know from AHS that went to UCLA took 3,4, or 5.

I had a crush on my APUSH teacher :[
And a girl-crush on my AP Bio teacher. She's a UCLA alumna and part of the reason I sent my SIR to LA.

Ahh, but I'm scared of doing only the MINIMUM amount required.
Two seems like the bare minimum, three seems like average, and four seems above average.

I wanna be above average!

But then again, I suppose it's better to get all A's, right?

There's no such thing as a minimum or maximum :/

Do what you think you can handle and try to get the best grades you can. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably use the extra time from NOT taking APES into getting A's in my APs and doing stuff for my ECs.

The APES score isn't going to do you any good at UCLA though, besides science credits if the score is high enough.

Score a 4 or 5 on the Eng Lang (or Eng Lit, if you screw up the first time). If you're gonna be in a sci major try for a 5 on Calc AB or a 4 or 5 on Calc BC if you want to skip classes.
