RIP Raquel Welch

This just makes me so sad. I read her autobiography about a decade ago. A woman with high principles and quite smart. I think I’ll read it again.

She went to the high school my D’s attended and she babysat a friend of mine when he was younger here in La Jolla. She was only a year older than my mom. For some reason her death makes me really sad.

Me, too for some reason.

This is so sad.
I remember reading about her at the Del Mar Fair with Tommy Hernandez whenever I would read the history at the fair.

This is a favorite moment of mine, a bit beyond my time, from the Dick Cavett Show. This video features Dick Cavett and Raquel Welch and Janis Joplin in June 1970, just a few month before Janis died.

The combination of the two is amazing in its own right. But the personalities of both Raquel and Janis really come out.

In addition, I think the other guests that Cavett had with Racquel and Janis were Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and tennis great Pancho Gonzales. All at the same time. I can’t find that video right now.

What an insanely eclectic panel that Dick Cavett assembled, but this is submitted to show the strength and beauty (in every sense of that word) of two great stars, Raquel and Janis.

RIP to the both of you:

She was really very beautiful. She also has a lovely voice.

She was a few years younger, but always reminded me of my mom. I have always thought she was more than pretty- so striking.

We were able to see her starring in a play, “The Millionairess,” in Bath when we visited. We were so happy to see her perform. The play was not great but we were happy to have attended.

It’s been years since I read her book, but if I recall correctly, she said they wanted her to hide the fact that she had children when she started out. She also said that despite her image, she was old fashioned and didn’t believe in sleeping around.

She actually had some great advice, some that I took to heart.
