I have just completed my junior year and my gpa is 3.1
As a senior if i get a 3.9 or a 4.0 is there any way to figure out what my cumulative gpa will be at the end of the year?

is it just simply
2.8+2.9+3.7+4.0= 13.4/4= 3.35?

Yup. That’s pretty weak, too. :(

I don’t think it’ll work unless you do the same amount of credits every year and it’s unweighted. I’m pretty sure you need to take those into account, not a 100% sure though.

CIA, thanks for the info. Im not trying to get into HYP’s like all the other kids on this site, so lay off. I had alot of family and emotional problems my first few years of HS, so lets jsut keep those comments to ourselves, shall we?

CIA, that was kind of uncalled for. I got a 3.1 going into my senior year, and brough it up to a 3.2 senior year. I got into Bard and transfered to Wesleyan for next semester. 3.35 is not so bad that you needed to comment on it.

That’s a rough estimate depending on weighting and credits and what not. It’s a fine GPA for most schools, don’t worry about a-holes like CIA. I do think that theres a pretty important difference between a 3.1 and a 3.3 from an admissions perspective though, so work hard. Any idea what schools you’re looking at?

seriously, CIA doesn’t need to make comments like that – just work hard to get your GPA up, and do your best…thats all you can ever do really, and its a GPA! its not life and death – you can make up for it in other ways too like playing sports and joining clubs, etc.

I don’t know how it works at your school, but at my school your GPA is weighted based on credits. Chances are you took more credits your junior year so your GPA will probably be higher than that. Just keep up the good work, you have a solid upward trend and the difference between a 3.1 and a 3.4 (or even 3.3) can be the difference between admission and rejection, but 3.1 still a good GPA for most schools, especially since some schools discount your freshman year, you’d have roughly a 3.4 as of now.

Well I am taking all honors courses next year including 6 courses at a 4 year university. I am hoping this will really improve my GPA while also taking some of the most challenging courses available. I am have knuckled down on my work and I think I am more then capable of succeeding in them. My goal is to go to UW-Madison, I know its a stretch but its my dream.. My fall back schools are not anything special, I just hope I dont end up at a school I hate, knowing I would rather be at Madison.

Wisconsin is an excellent school! Those grades would sort of hurt, but maybe Wisconsin only looks and So. and Jr. yr grades, I know Michigan does. Also if your instate, that’s a huge boost. How are your SAT/ACT scores, I think those would help paint a better picture of your chances.

well unfortnately my ACT score was a 24. Im planning on retaking it two more times as well as taking the SAT. The math portion is what really killed me on the ACt’s. Im really hoping for at least a 26

I didn’t mean to come off like an a-hole but after rereading my post I see that I did. I got a 3.0 my freshman semester and have had a lot of stuff going on too so I’m sorry if I offended you.

I assumed that you WOULD be aiming for the ivies like many on CC and that IS weak for those schools. Sorry :(

the side comment wasn’t really neccisary anyway. I was asking if that was what I should expect, I’m not asking for personal opinions on my grades.
