Rising Junior's Chances for UPenn?

Alright...let's do it. My grades and scores aren't top notch, but I have a whole year to go to raise them up (taking six different Honors/AP courses for next year as a junior) as well as outstanding extracurriculars. Just wondering if, in your opinion, UPenn would accept my application.

I'm a white, Jewish male (first generation on my father's side) from New Jersey. Playing football at Penn would be a dream, too, but that would just be gravy. I have a lot of experience being a leader, as you may have read. I'd like to be a business major, actually, so I know it'd be rather difficult, but what do you guys think?

…Or not

I think it is a bit of a reach for you, due to your lack of ap’s. You seem to be very involved with the sports aspect of your school, focus on that in your app. Also, try to get your SAT up a to maybe a 2250. Good luck, I am sure that you will get to a good school.

Also, what is AP Elementary Math Analysis? It’s not on the collegeboard website as an ap class.

@sraval1002 AP Elementary Math Analysis is our school’s way of saying AP Pre-Calc. Also, I made a mistake. I’ll be taking AP US History next year, not Honors.

Also…do you think that I’d be able to get into any of the Ivies with that application?

As somebody who got recruited by several ivies for football, I can tell you that if your scores are good enough to get in if you are actually good enough to play there, but judging by the fact that you’re not going to be a starter until senior year, I’d say your chances of getting recruited are pretty low.

As far as just applying, I’d say your chances are not great. Your GPA is very low and your scores are a little below average relative to the rest of the applicant pool. The EC’s do seem good though, so there’s no point in not giving it a shot if Penn is really where you want to be.

*your scores are good enough to be recruited

@TYBGswag do you think I have a chance at any of the Ivies? Also, what if I got the GPA up to a 4.2?

Yeah you have a chance, but your stats are pretty low and being Jewish and from new jersey certainly doesn’t help you, since you’ll be competing with a lot of Jewish kids from new jersey for a limited number of spots, to be honest. It’s gonna come down to how well you can write your essays, and that goes for all the non HYP ivies (which are the ones I would say you have an at least ok chance at). For you though, it’ll come down to if you can write an essay that will get somebody on the admissions committee to like you, since nothing else about you really sets you apart.
