Thank you. He will be majoring in Packaging Science. I would love to get on the parents’ page but heard they won’t allow parents to join until April. Would definitely love to hear some insight regarding housing, etc. He’s excited though. We all knew pretty quickly that RIT would be a great fit for him.
That’s unfortunate they aren’t letting any new members in until April. Once you join, it’s amazing how much info that page has. The families are so helpful especially the local families. When one of the kids is sick, local families volunteer to bring food or visit them in the hospital if that’s the case. It’s such a great group.
Oh packaging science is such a great major and so interesting. I would love to answer any questions. I’d suggest to get your deposit in ASAP. The housing appointment is based on when you gave your deposit. So the ones that give a deposit early on, get early appointments and more to choose from. You pick from a regular rectangle room or a square room. My daughter had a square room because it gives more space between the beds. She loved the square room. I don’t know what my daughter will want when she signs up for housing. That’s something we will discuss during Xmas break. Will you go to accepted students day? We plan on going.
He committed! Deposit is in. Thank you so much. Do you happen to know when admitted students day will be? He will try to research on his own about housing. The group would be a wonderful resource but it does say April so we will have to respect that.
I actually tried to join that Facebook group early and they wouldn’t let me. Too bad but I will try again in April.
Usually the accepted students day is in the latter part of March. I don’t think this years date has been set but it’s in early spring. That’s wonderful your deposit is in. My daughter that is currently at RIT had a horrible appointment time for housing. There wasn’t much left and she ended up at the dorm called Helen Fish-Fish C building. Turns out she was very happy with her dorm which was only three floors high. She didn’t have to wait for the elevator that sometimes is out of order in some of the other dorms. The only downside is her dorm room did not have air condition but it’s Rochester and the heat doesn’t stick around that long after move-in. My suggestion so your son is if he can get a room in a dorm on a low floor that is a plus. I say this because if he is in one of the high-rise buildings with air condition and on a high floor, he would be dealing with packed elevators during move in and also broken elevators during the year. It’s a lot easier if he’s on a low floor and doesn’t have to rely on the elevator.
Thank you so much. This is great advice that I will certainly share with him. If your daughter did have an early pick do you know which dorm she would have chosen based on maybe location, air conditioning, etc?
My DS got admitted today - ED2. Computer exploration. Now - that’s a big relief.
Question about accepting / deposit- The acceptance letter came with a Merit scholarship of $8K per year - FIRST Robotics scholarships- which we applied separately. No other awards / scholarships were mentioned.
Will the complete financial aid / Net cost of attendance follow ? Or is this complete aid ?
On their website I see a total
Cost of $69K. Does this mean - I have to pay $61K? ( we are not eligible for any FAFSA grants - but eligible for loans).
Thanks
Congrats! My son was accepted ED a few weeks ago and the Merit schollie came with the acceptance.
He received the financial aid award a couple of weeks after that.
We are from NJ. How do students typically get to Henrietta. Is there a train that is convenient ? Or do they need to own a car ?
- Do on campus students typically own a car or can they get by without one.
We drive from the NYC area. DS took the train back/forth for Thanksgiving, but a bit of a hassle getting to/from the Rochester train station downtown. Had a friend drop him/pick him up. So far, DS has survived without a car.
We are in NYC and my kid either takes Amtrak or plane to rochester. The campus is a short Uber ride from the train and airport. Many kids that are in the same areas get a ride from one another as well. There is also a private bus charter called MY BUS HOME that goes to different areas in the nearby states that many kids take. There are many kids on campus to bring their cars. Freshmen are allowed to bring cars to campus. My daughter does not have a drivers license and has not had an issue with not having a car on campus during the last four years.
Congratulations! My daughter was accepted during ED and received two separate emails. One was the acceptance letter and one was the financial aid award which included need based and scholarships. She received both emails at the same time from what I know.
Hi all. Does anyone know much about the Combined Accelerated Bachelor’s/Masters degree offer? Offered to most students or only specific majors? Thanks.
My son applied regular decision, but was wondering if any of you ED folks had the scoop on accepted student dates.
I’m not sure what his odds are for acceptance, but RIT is really high on his list, so I’d like to keep that day open just in case!
I am also looking for the accepted students date. I was told that it will be in March. But cannot find any information on the RIT website
We were told it was going to be virtual again this year. My son called admissions and they wrote him back with that answer.
That’s really disappointing. Virtual seems like a good way to get answers to specific questions - but not terribly helpful for getting a feel for the place, eating in the dining hall, seeing if current students seem happy there, etc.
I guess I’ll see if guidance counselor might be able to put us in touch with a former student who would be able to show us around.
It is disappointing. We heard they do a great accepted students day when in person. We were looking forward to attending.
Please post any updates on accepted dY - if anyone finds out. Thanks
I do have the same question
