Rit ed 2023

According to the agenda we have, there are specific meetings with representatives from the academic departments. And there’s an activities fair with people from different clubs present.

Thanks, it does sound a lot like the open house from the fall. Of course my son tell me nothing, so often the only I find out anything is on these threads!

Hi. My son is going to apply for game design in 2020. Has anyone got in ED and if so would they mind sharing their Stats so he has an idea what to aim for . Also when do applicants get their decision because we are in Canada and it rolls out very late here. Thanks

My son had 1470 SAT and had a w GPA of a 94 and UW of 90, with A’s and B’s mixed in. Is taking 4 APs this year and took 4 last year and got 4’s and 5s. OK EC’s. For ED it came in late Nov this year!!

Thanks very much and congrats. We are going up to visit soon.

I am really appreciating all the attention RIT sends out. I wasn’t surprised when we got emails telling us about applying and deadlines, but now that he is accepted they still send Congratulation/Welcome emails, an email from his admissions officer, and just now a call from admissions to see if he had any questions. He’s got to choose between RIT and RPI but right now now, (even though everything is computer generated), RPI isn’t giving him any attention that comes close to what RIT is showing! If they are trying to sway my thought it’s certainly working!

@rileysmom when we first started the college journey RPI was top of the list, but after visiting RIT , it became number 1. For my child it was the perfect fit. I am going up on the 5th/6th for accepted students and to have meetings. They have been very accommodating. Of course first thing my S signs FERPA! For a school its size, it does seem to care about the students.

@sdl0625 I’m embarrassed that I had to look up ferpa, but I know what it is now ?. I’m sure my son will sign up for it too. We will be there on the 6th, it’s nice that we are local so it makes travel easy. I had no idea how good RIT truly was until we went to an open house. Sad it’s been in my backyard all this time but I never took time to investigate it, Both schools seem to work for my son, snd it could very well come down to study abroad. It’s been his dream to go to Japan, but RPI doesn’t go there. RIT has that Immersion requirement, and classes in Japanese count for it.

@Pete18 Game Design, as I am sure you know, is one of the most competitive majors at RIT. What we have seen is that RD, stats are higher overall and some rejections for some of the more competitive programs (Game Design, CS, Aero, ME). The RD group here is a bit on the smaller side and is spread across majors. My S, who is CS had a 3.43 UW (we do not weight but estimate it around 3.85) very high rigor and a 33 ACT. I do think he’d have been admitted RD, but I suspect it would have been to his 2nd or 3rd choice major.

@rileysmom we spent 3 days on campus last summer at their colleges & careers event set up separate meetings to meet with department/faculty directly. The interactions were amazing across the board, including handwritten notes from the department, special t shirt given at the department meeting, cool magnet set after he got home etc.

Lots and lots of little touches that add up. I was wowed at the parent sessions at the event and the direct interaction with key staff in my sons department. The nice dinner and margaritas after that, didn’t hurt, I do admit. Granted it was a paid event but for an overnight event with 4 academic sessions and feeding the students, I wasn’t expecting to be wined and dined and well…it was a nice touch!

I was anti-ED, my son wanted it. My son actually changed his major selection after his sessions (changed the 3rd choice major but still) and great, direct faculty interaction.

After that visit, I was sold. I’ve continued to be.

@eandesmom that program sounds great, wish I had known about it! I love being wined and dined. I am looking forward to Accepted students day next week and meeting the department faculty. We applied RD, knew we ere rolling the dice as he applied for CS and it’s very competitive, but didn’t want to be locked in to acceptance in case other financial aid offers came in that were Bettelheim. They were not better, and we were thrilled with the offer from RIT. I hope our experience next week is just as good as your was last summer (even though I won’t get any margaritas ?)

@rileysmom i will be there on the 6th as well. coming in early to have meetings on the 5th.

@rileysmom the “blue” margarita at the Mexican place on campus, is surprisingly tasty. You’ll just have to pay for it

Maybe we will run into each other this weekend. I didn’t know there was a Mexican place on campus, we’ll have to try it out. Sounds like I’ll need a blue margarita after all the presentations, it’ll be a lot of info in a short time. @sdl0625 best of luck at your meetings, your experience thus far has been stellar, I’m confident they will continue. If the weather is nice Rochester has a lot of fun things to do. If you can get downtown to what is called the High Falls area check out the Genesee Brew House. Excellent food and their beer selections have disappoints me yet!

Very successful Accepted student day today. RIT rolled out the red carpet and truly showed us what a wonderful college it is. Son was asking a lot of questions and seemed to be very into the everything. I was very impressed at the open house last fall and am even more impressed after today!

As part of this post early on, I appreciated stressing over the details with other parents. I’m curious to hear from everyone now that freshman have been on campus for a few days.

We have been impressed by the effort RIT has put into their freshman orientation. My son has quickly found friends, spoke with a few professors, and overall, is quite happy with his choice to attend RIT.

Thoughts?

Agree 100% . They way they included families was fantastic. WE dont regret our choice at all.
