The one up side to being in a Rodney forced triple was that at least there was AC. My D was notified this morning that the AC was broken and will not be fixed for 7-10 days so everyone should bring fans. However, box fans will not fit in Rodney's windows. There is already no space with squeezing 3 girls into a double room with all of their belongings. Where are we going to put fans? I guess it just goes to show that Rodney should've been torn down long ago. Ugh...sorry but feeling frustrated.

I would think that a dehumidifier would do more than fans anyway. I wonder if Rodney’s power can handle a dehumidifier. But this time of year it is the humidity.

my son went upstairs to check his email and I heard a big… “oh hellllll nooooo” coming out of his room. I’m glad I didn’t return the box fan I purchased prior to his housing info we released. I can’t imagine fitting those fans in with 3… thank goodness it hasn’t been an overly oppressive summer. The year my D lived in Dickenson it was ungodly through the end of September. Fingers crossed they fix the AC soon for those kids. :)

Was just thrilled when D shared this with me today! Should make that 4th floor walk up even more pleasant! Glad Target still had some smaller fans left. Have to say she is handling much better than I would. Now I am reading it will be an issue with traffic for move in too. Great way to start…oh well will truly appreciate my AC at home Saturday night.

For Rodney and Dickinsin, although it may not be kosher for everyone (depending on how far away you live), I really would recommend getting to your assigned dorm area between 7:30 and 7:45am, unload your vehicle, and then you can check in at 8:00am. Students helpers will be most available at this time. Once you have unloaded your vehicle someone can move it to one of the available parking garages (Trabant or Music Center garages, which are not really far away). Garage parking has always been free on move-in day at these lots. You can then work on setting up the students room without being pestered to move your vehicle (and later in the day it can be a mess just trying to get out of the dorm area.).If you do all these things early the traffic will not really be that bad. Once you get past 10:00 am it can be horrific. Good luck.

Mwallenmd gives good advice. The music center garage is your best bet… though if you get there early enough there should be spots in the lot next to Rodney… Traffic will always be an issue in Newark. One bright spot on move-in day is that it is planned to be a nightmare… There will be people directing traffic, and it will not be fun. BUT, there will be volunteers to help you carry stuff into the dorms. Freshman move-in is the only time it will happen so enjoy it. You will not have this when you move out. As far as traffic, just never plan your trip using main street of Newark, never;

Son just called, his A/C is working now

Just in time for the higher temps forecast for this week. Today was a gorgeous day to be on campus. Well… just off campus.

@a430qt what building is your son in ? I have had limited texts from my son… I’m trying not to text him much and he is never one to text me and offer up info. Just curious if only certain ones were restored or the whole complex.

UDaily announced yesterday at 12:30 pm that air conditioning has been restored to the Rodney Complex.

gotta love my kid… not a word about it… not sure why I think college would change things… lol…

@lefty1 “E” Wing

@lefty1 my D is in B and said her unit does not seem to be cool at all yet others in her building are fine. She was going to call maintenance. I did make sure she knew there was a control knob…but she said she tried that. Having an older S I can sympathize with lack of info!
