Hi. My daughter applied EA to Roger Williams and heard the other day she was accepted and was offered a nice merit scholarship too. Just wondering anyone’s kids are going to RW and what their experience has been? We were able to visit before Covid and the school certainly looks nice and the area really a good fit for my daughter. She is waiting to hear if she got accepted to the honor’s college or not. Thanks!
My son was also accepted. Have you heard much about the social scene? He’s also applied to some large universities. We think the smaller school may be better for him academically but he’s worried about the social scene not being enough. Does anyone know more about this?
I don’t know about undergrad, but the law school is well respected regionally. It has a beautiful campus right on the water. Bar passage rate is really good, and the law school has a commitment to tuition freezing, making it one of the most financially competitive in the northeast. I imagine undergrad is similar. Congrats and good luck!
A boy in my D’s class was recruited to play basketball there and he had a good experience there. I worked alongside his mom and she never had any bad things to say about his experience at Roger Williams. His younger sister also applied there, but went elsewhere
My daughter attends Roger Williams. She transferred there January 2020 from an exremely small LAC. She had actually been accepted there for Fall 2017 but went to the other school. She is a Marine Biology major. Her first six weeks last spring were very enjoyable. She joined the Ultimate Team and was getting up to practice early, she got a work-study job at the gym, and she liked her classes and her suitemates/roommates. Came home in March for break, which was extended, and then Roger went remote for the remainder of the spring term as well as the summer. They did a good job as far as I can tell with remote learning What has been REALLY impressive, though, is that they reopened in the fall with twice weekly COVID testing, dining tents outdoors, take out, limits on socializing, etc. She and two friends (also mid-year transfers last year) opted to rent a small ranch type home in the northern part of Bristol in a very sweet neighborhood. She’s had a very good academic experience there. She’s working this year in a marine bio lab and may have a summer job there (will graduate December 21). One of their academic requirements is to take a core concentration in an area separate from your major. She’s taking education classes as that concentration with Marine Bio as her major. We love going down to visit (about 2.5 hours from home) especially pre-COVID always liked the area anyway. Newport is beautiful and Bristol itself is nice with some restaurants and waterfronts. Financial aid is okay, not great, which was a factor in her Freshman year decision. One of her housemates is an Admissions tour guide and her two housemates seem to really like it there as well. Campus is beautiful. The bridge lights at night are awesome. Dorms we saw were very nice. They do have a dorm in a converted conference center across the bridge which isn’t very convenient. This year they quarantined anyone who was covid positive at that center. Testing is done weekly for COVID, and they’ve pretty much kept it under control. They’re charging a small fee for testing this semester. All in all she’s been happy with her experience, though it’s been “unique” as a transfer and then with COVID.
Thank you so much for sharing your daughter’s experience about Roger Williams! So helpful and great to hear it’s been such a positive one. All the best to your daughter and hoping for a more normal college experience soon!
