Role of Colleges

Does anyone know if you can take courses in any college? For ex, if my son is in College of Science, can he take courses in Engineering College? Also, is it hard to transfer to another college? I know a student can change majors, but I wondered if that is only within a College. Thanks.

At Georgia Tech a student can transfer to any other college, but it just may take longer to graduate, depending on how many credits a student brings with him from high school, how overlapped the two majors are, and if the student was trying to take classes in both majors from the beginning. The role of colleges at a big university is administrative role. So managing buildings, budget, teaching staff, curriculum is done college by college. Some colleges at GT have more majors than other colleges. Students can and are even required to take classes in English, government, US History to satisfy Georgia Tech requirements. But students can and do take classes in all the colleges to get a well rounded technical background and earn their bachelors degree. Registration can be harder in some colleges than others, it all depends on the size of the college.

So, the College of Computing, its particularly hard to register for classes in this college, due to overcrowding right now. its plausible that GT will hire more faculty in the College of Computing, making this problem go away. I do not know their plans.
The College of Computing gives first dibs for registration to majors in the thread they choose. So registration is divided by thread, and if a student is not in the computer science thread that requires that particular computer science class, they will get lower priority to register. Likewise, freshman have lower priority than upper class men.
