ROTC Scholarship

Does anyone have insight on how the receipt of a 4yr ROTC scholarship will affect 1) one’s admission potential or 2) the potential to receive additional USC scholarships?

Thanks in advance.

Have you been awarded a ROTC scholarship?

Some info here: http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/rotc/

Yes, DS has been awarded a scholarship but has not been accepted to USC (engineering). We’re (read: father & checkbook) are still trying to figure out R&B.
Thanks for the link.

Congratulations!!!

Some very brief info:

As for admissions, the scholarship could be listed as an award or honor on the application. Having a scholarship would not preclude him from receiving additional scholarships, but the aid would be coordinated. The “big” USC scholarships (Trustee, Presidential, Deans) are tuition scholarships, and the Mork is tuition plus $5,000. So if the ROTC is a scholarship restricted to tuition-only, USC in general will only allow up to $8,000 of the USC scholarship to be applied to non-tuition expenses. So (if it is restricted to tuitioin only) a full-tuition ROTC plus a full-tuition Trustee scholarship would result in tuition plus $8,000. If the ROTC scholarship is not restricted to tuition-only, then you can receive a total of up to the cost of attendance (currently about $57,000/year).

If you are applying for financial aid, scholarships are considered a resource. If you have a calculated need of $45,000 and a scholarship of $40,000, your need becomes $5,000 and aid is awarded based on the smaller amount.

Make sure you contact admissions and let them know you received a 4yr ROTC scholarship. Not supposed to influence the outcome but many times it does. Also let the PMS know that you are definitely going if you havent sent the confirmation letter back yet.
