@STEM2017 My FS experience was that his SAT scores got him decent merit from Rowan, but he asked thru the guidance counselor to consider his ACT scores, which were better. They increased his merit.
Of course he went on to win the Gates Millennium scholarship, so he would ultimately been ok without more money, but he didn’t know that at the time He was high school class of 2015 and is just finishing his first year at Rowan and loves it there. Talk about his different professors all the time, has really engaged with them and done well in all aspects of college life. Very proud of him and happy for him.
@NJRoadie I owe you a very big thank you for your posts and info you provided me. Rowan just sent my son a letter increasing his scholarship by $3,000. Not as much as your daughter but this is great! I still believe they aren’t as generous for engineering. This at least covers any increases we didn’t plan on.
I’m also waiting to hear from the president’s office about the real COA that better explains the housing costs for next year. I wrote them an email because they are having budget meetings and said to attend or email with questions. They got right back to me and said they will look into and I will hear from them soon. I’m hopeful housing will not be so high. I will post when I hear.
@Lehighmother That is awesome! So was it $3,000 x 4 years? or $750 x 4 years? So glad you pursued it, really paid off!
Please do let me know about the housing costs. She committed a while ago and filled out the housing request as soon as she was able to, requesting HoPoCo. The only thing she has expressed nervousness about is the rumor that HoPoCo will have all access bathrooms (no gender). She doesn’t mind the stalls, but the shower situation she is sure about. I assured her there was no way they would have something unsafe.
@NJRoadie It was $3,000 a year so $12,000 total. My family especially one of my daughters could not believe that an email got him so much more money. Sometimes my family thinks I’m crazy. I didn’t even tell them I requested a review of his application.
My son is living in HoPoCo and I’m thrilled. I actually like the bathroom designs. It’s not a rumor. One of my daughter lived on a co-ed floor at college and the guys had access to the girls bathrooms so I don’t see it as any different. If you look at the floor plan and renderings it looks like a smart design. There is a room of just sinks for brushing, hair makeup etc. then there are 3 rooms each of showers and 3 just with stalls. Looks like there is locked doors in both for the individual stalls with no room for access while door in locked. Showers have changing area behind door but before shower. i wouldn’t be surprised if certain bathrooms become unofficially men or woman since there are three in each “pod” of rooms. I can’t wait to see it, I’m hoping it’s open for touring during orientation.
Go online and look at the brochure and you’ll see what I mean. I will definitely let you know if I hear about housing costs. I specifically requested the cost of HoPoCo.
I got accepted as a transfer student (Out of State) for chemical engineering. Got no aid from them… only federal direct subsidized and unsubsidized loan so aid in this school is pretty bad.
@bvo112 aid for most transfer students at most schools isn’t very good, unfortunately. Did you decide to attend Rowan or if not where are you attending?
@NJRoadie and anyone interested. The housing costs for Rowan for next year are posted (not easily found). All the existing housing is a 3% increase over last years costs. Holly Pointe Commons (which doesn’t list triples, yeah!) is $1519/year (17%) higher over traditional housing. This increase is closer to 20% from last year instead of the COA info that put it at 32%. I think it’s worth living in the new dorm with air conditioning. Hoping meal plan and tuition cost increases are a lower percentage.
