<p>Does getting the RPI medal improve your chances of being accepted at RPI?</p>
<p>I'd say if you were awarded the RPI medal, it's prettymuch definite that you would be accepted at rpi. Whether the award itself improves your chanes I'm not sure, but since the medal is usually given to people with one of the top academic records at their school, you probably shouldnt be worried..</p>
<p>The medal goes to the kid with the highest science and math grades in the class, whether they want to go to RPI or not. I will know on wednesday whether i will get it or not. Anyway, if you get it, you are pretty much in.</p>
<p>jq722, not necessarily true. I did not have the highest math and science grades in my class but showed a strong interested in RPI. I think my counselor aided me in getting the medal as opposed to the #1 kid who will be going to Yale.</p>

<p>that just means that your school gives it out differently than they are supposed to be doing it. RPI wants it to go to the student with the highest average in math and science classes in the class. Mine went to the valedictorian, because he has the highest average, though he had no interests in engineering and is doing liberal arts at Harvard.</p>
<p>I got the medal for my school and I know I don't have the highest math and science averages. I mean I'm good at them, but definately not the highest. </p>
<p>I think my guidence counselor suggested me because I mentioned I wanted to do the accelerated med program. Do you know if the medal can be applied to the 7 yr?</p>
<p>The medal is valid for 4 years at RPI (5 years for architects). The Med program is 3+4? So you'd get 15,000 a year for 3 years at RPI.</p>
<p>At my son's high school, the Medal has always gone to the #2 person in the class, seemingly regardless of who is actually the best in just math and science classes. Last year's winner will be going to Tufts for journalism (I think).</p>
