RPI or Georgia Tech?

My major is Mechanical Engineering. Which school is harder RPI or Georgia Tech (academics wise)? I got into both schools, but I don't know which one to pick. I am a girl, so the ratio doesn't really matter to me.

Smn, both R.P.I. and GT are extremely high caliber from an academic standpoint and I don’t think you can say one is easier than the other in a blanket statement. GT is much bigger than Rensselaer so it tends to score better in national rankings that weigh overall program size heavily (a.ka. US NEWS).

The reality is that RPI and GT are very close together in terms of standardized test scores, instructional/research facility quality and faculty quality.

I think RPI is better for someone who prefers the intimacy of a smaller school. GT is better for those who also want big time sports programs, better social / cultural scene in Atlanta (Troy is poor town whose time has come and gone), and other things associated with a bigger school.

You have a great choice in front of you and will get an AWESOME engineering education at either one.

Thanks for your reply! Which school is easier for me to get into a good graduate school? People have been telling me it is really hard to get a good GPA in Georgia Tech.

^^^
I really can’t tell you that it will be any easier to get a good GPA at R.P.I… I did EE at RPI years ago and personally had to work extremely hard to get on the Dean’s List (3.0/4.0). I also knew people who seemed relatively relaxed and got 3.7+. Finally there were people who worked very hard and flunked out of the school completely anyway.
So there is a wide range and it really depends on your individual characteristics in terms of how successfull you will be. I did find my classmates to be supportive rather than always competitive though.

Perhaps a current student could give you more insight.

Anyway, If you want to go to grad school, Rensselaer has a great rep particulary in the Northeast and is well known at placed like M.I.T. and Cornell. MIT funds a $30000 annual cash prize at R.P.I. for student inventiveness (senior or grad student) so MIT apparently thinks highly of RPI.
