RPI vs Stony Brook?

Just to fill in the picture, when did these people who have nothing good to say about RPI actually go there?

Just an anecdote, but a son of a co-worker (who went to RPI on a 5-figure scholarship, though it still covered less than half of COA) decided to transfer out recently (about 2 years ago). His grades were good and according to the dad, he liked the academics and professors, but the students were just too weird/anti-social. He never made any friends at RPI and he’s a pretty normal kid (upper/upper-middle-class kid from one of the richer suburbs of a mid-tier city outside the Northeast, so fits the typical CC demographic).

But again if it’s merit he’s getting there will likely be a four year guarantee. But when he says it’s changed perhaps they had need based or missed the required GPA. Simply saying don’t just go by…I hear, my friend said, my dads bosses cousin told me, etc

They went in the late 80’s to early 90s.

OP, SBU seems like the safer choice for you. There’s not much upside for you with RPI, and quite a bit of potential downside.

SBU may have less upside but the risks are minimal and well-known (e.g. the bland LI suburban environment).

If you’re still uncertain, choose risk mitigation.
