Rsi 2007

hey keone! looking back, i'm glad i did that - i asked the silliest questions! :D

lydia423: i didn't even send an official transcript or scores. i sent copies of both made by my counselor.

Using a fake e-mail address.. I wish I would have thought of that. I could have had fun making up the e-mail name too.

PSAT:240

Do I have a reasonable chance here?

Yes.

By the way, the TASP thread is destroying you guys. Pick it up or WE will be the Ultimate Summer Program.

we already are the ultimate summer program iris...

i'm a math geek and rsi makes me sick :-P

i<3school, your stats are good enough, but it's hard to say how good your chances are without knowing about your essays/writing style.

oh, and rsi will always be the "Ultimate Summer Program". :P..the original rsi thread was started in high school life. it was recently abandoned for this one, so i don't think we're doing THAT bad. but this thread IS a bit too slow...GET PUMPED GUYS (and girls, but believe me, mostly guys :D)!!!!

Well, after mistakingly starting a thread in the wrong forum, I was sorta hoping it would just die out...

Anyways, I guess I sent mine out today. It was sorta rushed, so I don't think I did a good job as far as writing goes. I'm not sure if we're allowed to send supplements, but I sent one anyways. Also, I didn't send a postcard because I'm too cheap/forgot to buy one. Why is March so far away? And seriously, people on AoPS were talking about how crazy big the thread was last year.

If we send our application from our school, how far in advance should it be sent? Are we really allowed send it overnight (not from our school)? I'm feeling a little bit uneasy about relaying on standard shipping, even if I do manage to send it out this very second.

wtrbear: you don't have to send it from your school. they have no way of knowing if you did, so you might as well overnight if you need extra time.

the directions for the part II questions state that the total length should not exceed 3 pages. Do you think it needs to be double spaced?

chocaholic, definitely not! :)

Congratulations to the 9 Rickoids who made Intel STS Finals (plus one other person who was accepted to RSI but attended Int'l Chem Olympiad instead, so it really should be 10)!!!! That's 25% of Finalists! PWNED

Anybody else hate waiting....

only 59 more days.......

until 95% get rejected.... wooo

What pages specifically have to be included in the application? I just want to make sure I have all the papers I need:

-form sheet with info like name
-part I of app (with signatures)
-part II of app
-Essay
-verification of scores
-2 teacher recs
-transcript
-app fee

the statement in the brochure "Please remove the following wto sheets of paper to form the RSI application." confused me... =/

These two months will go by faster than you think, IF you DON'T think about RSI. Don't worry, even if you don't get in, there are plenty of really awesome things you can do over the summer that are just as beneficial (or more) as RSI!

mrniceguy, yup it looks like you got everything. Good luck to you and everybody else!

good luck everybody who is applying.
If the deadline is feb.9 when should I send it?

no later than feb.5, probably. if you're finished, send it tomorrow to be safe.

Thanks. You saved my life! I was planning on sending it like the 7th or something like that. =D

Congratulations to everybody and Good LUCK!

Oh yah, if by some miraculous stroke of luck i'm accepted to this program and I do research that gets me recognition in Siemens-Westinghouse/Intel talent am I like smooth sailing for college?
...
or is it like the PSAT that everybody stresses about, but doesn't really matter. T_T

^ i dn't think you're smooth sailing...
lolz i was siemens regional finalist and that hasn't really boosted my confidence lol

but i guess rsi would help a lot...btw i'm applying this year lol..

RSI helps if you do an awesome project. If not, it's of little importance. (After all, it isn't an honor or award, just an acceptance to a summer program.) But I don't think anyone ever in the history of RSI had to go to a state university because they failed to get into either Harvard, Yale, MIT, Princeton, Caltech, Stanford, etc. Very few people get into all of these schools, but just about everybody gets into at least one. I hope :-</p>
