ahh early march is still pretty soon (relatively)! most programs don’t notify you till april or so i think. good luck to everybody on getting in!
do you think it’ll be a really big weakness for me if i haven’t taken any college level science/math courses? obv it’s not good but how badly do you think it will affect me? so far ive only taken honors (im planning on ap next year), and ive done really well, but it’s still only honors… ive done a lot of lab research in molecular biology, and i have a published paper, so i think my knowledge is college level, but i haven’t actually taken ap bio or anything. i did take the sat2 for bio-m (800) and chem (780) though. i haven’t taken ap calc yet either (im in precal right now), but i didn’t indicate math as an interest/ field category. it seems pretty much everybody is already in calc though. T-T
Thx in advance for the feedback! :D

Atomicbaseball, could you please chance me? I was chaced before, but I don’t feel that I was chanced fairly.

research experience: I thought that I had had an original idea last year, but it turned out to be a rediscovery. I sent it to a professor who reviewed my work and called something he would expect to see “from a graduate student who had been in math six or eight years.” I wrote all about it in my essays.

extracurriculars
All-American swimmer
Founder of my town’s chess club
member of several other organizations, including the band in which I am the first chair French horn player.
I tuter in math

My essays were excelent–and I mean it. I downloaded the application as soon as it came out and put a massive amount of effort into them.

I am sure that my calc teacher wrote an amazing letter of recomendation, but my precal teacher waited untill several days after I should have mailed it. The letter was lazily written, but the application readers will be able to recognize that, won’t they?

@RSIuser i have no idea how RSI admissions works, but to me everything seems really good! your SAT score is pretty low though. maybe your PSAT can make up for it?

No, my PSAT scores can’t make up for it. I submited my SAT scores rather than my PSAT scores because my PSAT math score was a 66 and the combined score was only two or three points higher than my SAT score. However, if I did make it in, it wouldn’t be a record low SAT score. I’ve read of RSI accepties having worse. =)

Also, in response to your questions, it may or may not be a problem that you have no college classes. I would think that you would have to have taken or self studied college level classes in order to do research, but you published a paper anyway. Yours may be a tricky case, but I suspect that the essays matter for you even more than most because that is where you have to show them that you have college level knowlage even without college level classes. Good luck to you! =)

oh okay, hopefully all of your other amazing stuff will make up for it then. and its good that there have been RSI acceptees with lower scores! good luck!
have you heard of RSI acceptees not having taken college level math/science courses before?

Hey guys do I have any chance at all? Can you chance me?

Applied for chemistry and applied math

SAT: didn’t take yet, but got 800 on math in 8th grade. got me top in country award for cty’s talent search. hopefully that will help even though they aren’t official anymore

Taken 4 college classes at local college (all As) statistics and chemistry included

Essays: pretty good, but everyone says that so probably average

Teacher Recs: good

…but no big research projects and no big awards, only a passion. do i have any chance?

@StanfordReady: I’m certainly no expert since I’m applying to RSI too. It seems to me that your stats in most other states would be pretty good. However, as you are from California, I wouldn’t know. Siemens semifinalist is pretty impressive though.

Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anyone could chance me. Please…

Applied for (Organic) Chemistry and Bioengineering

PSAT: 240
ACT:36
SAT II: Chem-800 Math2-800

AP (all 5’s so far): Chem, Calc BC, Euro

Summer Work: Two years lab work at U Chicago studying archaebacteria for natural gas bioreactors (fun stuff)

Essays: I guess they’re good. I tried to make them entertaining. Hope that helps?

Recs: I can pray…

I was really happy about my test scores, but other than that I don’t think I stand out much. I hope my grades help though?

I’d really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

I’m also IB… I don’t know if that means anything at all?

were we supposed to report our ap scores? i didn’t…

@ Stanford: it’ll be about 4-5 from CA. U from Harker, MV, or Lynbrook?

@Bimby3: No, it wasn’t required.

But for those with good scores, it doesn’t hurt to mention them in the essays! I really don’t think they carry much weight though, because pretty much everybody takes them.

@RSIuser: Depending on your state, I would say good chances to very very good chances :)

@RSIUser: Just curious, where have you taken your college courses? I live in the middle of nowhere so I always have a difficult time finding college-level courses to attend.
Your coursework looks pretty impressive though. I can’t really chance you because I have no experience, but good luck!

@RSIuser oops i didn’t see your edit until now.
anyways, yeah i self-studied a lot of stuff related to my research, but not in a formal setting. i hope my essays are good enough! im sure all rsi applicants put tons of effort into their essays though, so i don’t know how mine will compare…
ahh well, good luck to everybody! all we can do now is wait until march…

@lvdrlvr55, I am taking my courses online through CTY and EPGY. If you want to know more about them, you should Google them. If you have nowhere local to take your courses, I would suggest one of these two online places.

@darksigma, I live in Indiana. I hope thats not a competitive state? =)
Also, how do you make your smiley faces?

ahhhh I’m from Indiana too:(:(

@ntennis, no one is quite sure how they decide to select from each state. If I get in, it probably won’t hurt your odds much, so a double frowny face is uncalled for! =) Also, how do you make the faces? It seems that everyone knows how to make them but me.

@RSIuser: maybe it’s because you’re using equals and not a colon?

Well I got my self-addressed envelope sent back. There was nothing in it, but I’m guessing they got it.

Now to wait…

We realy do need something more to talk about–although it might be better just to forget about the whole thing untill march, if such a thing is even possible. Does anyone know where the stats/essays of previous year’s accepties can be found? ;)
