GAINESVILLE - Two months after trimming its budget by $47 million and laying off faculty members and more than 100 staffers, the University of Florida is giving out raises.

University of Florida President Bernie Machen said Friday that beginning Sept. 19, staff members will get a 2 percent pay raise. Eligible faculty will participate in a 3 percent merit pool. Merit raises will be based on criteria established by the dean of each college.

Increases for faculty and staff members in unions will be governed by the terms of their contracts.

The university has about 5,300 faculty members and 8,300 staffers.

Machen said the $11 million in raises is coming from a recent tuition increase and student fees.

Machen says he is turning down his raise, worth about $8,300, which is 2 percent of his $416,000 salary.

UF Staff To Receive Pay Raises

I have NO PROBLEM with the 3% pool for FACULTY merit raises.

However were you expecting to pay the 2% for the STAFF raises ???
THAT IS THE RESPONSABILITY OF THE STATE!

So basically UF has just bailed out the State of Florida for $11 Million.

Let the tuition games begin!
