Running a 6-figure business

<p>Do you guys think it'll be a good idea to mention (say if a student created) a 6-figure/year business?</p>

<p>Also, how might it affect the financial aid?</p>

<p>Yes, it would. That being said, would the student even need financial aid if they make as much as a good chunk of middle class families?</p>

<p>Also, my son just received a dorm contract and it said something about no private businesses are allowed to be run out of a dorm. Also agree with what meep said. If you made that kind of money, where is it? If it was to support your parents and family, perhaps you do mention that … if it was used to go on a dream vacation or buy a new car and clothes, meh.</p>

<p>A “6-figure” business usually means gross sales of that amount–it would be your share of the business’s profits (if any), not sales, that could affect your financial aid.</p>

<p>Given that you’re going to have to report it for financial aid, you may as well mention it since it should be a significant positive for your application. Well, depending on the nature of the business…</p>
