[In State] Got deferred from RBS, SAS, and SEBS w/ a 1510 SAT and 3.8 weighted. I don’t know what to do (this was my first choice for a university).
@calaca - My son updated SRAR with good 1st-semester grades (UWGPA 3.66/WGPA 4.27, 4 APs and 2 DEs classes) last week and he just got admitted to Pitt, Delaware and Rutgers this week. It’s like magic! So I think mid-year grades do play an important role on admission decision. By the way, we are OOS which may also be a factor.
Quick question is it possible to appeal a rejection from Rutgers? I’m honestly sad but ok because I have other places I can go for college already but I’m just curious about why I got rejected? I just want to know why for my own mental clarity because Rutgers was my top school and yes my stats are low to some extent but that’s only with my test score. Without it I thought my application was good enough. I just want to know why I wasn’t good enough.
It has been a crazy few months waiting for this Rutgers admission decision. Today I found out I was deferred from Rutgers with a 3.61 WGPA and a 1200 SAT. This was my top school and school of my choice. It’s so sad to know that people with 3.0’s and 1000 SAT scores which eased their way through high school and got in. I have never been a great test taker as you can see from my SAT but I was hoping my GPA would combat that. I worked my ass off the past 4 years. My senior year GPA currently is a 4.2 making my overall a 3.8-3.9 what do you think the chances of me getting accepted are? I applied for Econ! I really need some SOLID advice rn.
Don’t stress too much if you’re deferred. Just gotta wait and whatever happens happens. Good luck to all
I never got an email or anything but I just checked my portal. I got deferred from all three schools
Daughter deferred for SAS New Brunswick. However, she was accepted to Environmental and Biological Science a few weeks ago. 1/31 must be deferral day. All but one of the responses I read today said deferred.
So now that we’re in the deferral mode… when do you think decisions will be made regarding regular decision? And is this just really a set up for being wait listed or rejected later?
So we received a deferred to regular decision this morning. I guess we just have to wait even longer?
Got into SAS and SOE during the first wave of admissions just got deferred from RBS.
Stats:
SAT:1370
Weighted GPA: 4.91
Unweighted: 3.65
Extracurriculars: Varsity Soccer, Varsity Volleyball Captain, National Honor Society, Latin Honor Society, National Business Honor Society, DECA Vice president (of local chapter).
Mixed emotions on this one. D20 was accepted to SAS in first wave and got deferred last night from RBS. She is only interested in going to a business school so the SAS acceptance was never taken seriously. That said, we had done an RBS visit and it wasn’t just bad it was the WORST visit we had with any school. The dean they put forth started her talk saying ’ We know we aren’t your first choice but maybe you could live with coming here’. Seriously I never heard a more ridiculous pitch. She flat out said we don’t care about your essays or any other information beyond the numbers… to be accepted by better regarded business schools and deferred here is truly baffling and shows they don’t care about the student only a number. (yes, yes some sour grapes even though she never really wanted to attend and was put off by the visit and hearing her friends experiences at the school)
I applied on November 31, with SAT of 1240 and a GPA of 3.8W and 3.4UW (93.950 GPA) and got back from SAS on December 19th. Still waiting on business and engineering tho
Just curious, if she never seriously considered SAS, why did she apply?
I have never been so disappointed in an application decision. I understand that there is a quota that needs to be fulfilled, but the fact of the matter is that they decided on an EA applicant after they checked the regular decision kid. This school’s organization system must run on a 2 IQ cause it literally makes no sense. “Submit your app early to get a decision after the kids who applied RD” like what type of common sense is that. Maybe I am just sore about it, but the Rutgers system needs to be looked at. I know that I am more than qualified to go to this school and have higher stats than many of the kids who got in from my school. I hope this deferral turns into acceptance because I will never forgive myself for not getting into a school that I considered as a safety. Ironically I wrote my essay on failure and how it has taught me so much. Once again failure never disappoints because I now understand “to never underestimate a school”. The Rutgers application process is like the Odyssey cause it was one long journey and right now we are at the climax.
After writing this whole thing I think you guys can see my head coming out of the fog of really understanding what happened. I am going to leave this hear just cause I think it’s an entertaining read LMAO! But keep your head up guys I know we will all get what we rightfully deserve.
@NYCDadof2 Since you can apply to 3 schools, why not
Well, I guess the obvious answer is that someone who really wanted the opportunity to attend SAS would be deferred/denied in favor of someone who didn’t really want an offer to begin with.
@smgins we had a similar experience at the presentation we attended. We were told RBS looks at your stats first and they are looking for a certain SAT score first. They didn’t care about your essay and probably won’t even read it.
Some of you asked why apply to SAS also…for my S it was the possibility of being able to take similar classes as RBS students in the first year (and possibly second year) with the thought of potentially transferring into to RBS in the second or third year. So applying to SAS was more strategic than “just applying to SAS for the sake of applying”. My S was accepted to SAS back in December but still waiting on RBS decision. His SAT score is probably low for RBS.
That is a reasonable explanation, thanks.

Yes. It happened to us because we didn’t push the send button on the SRARs, so it was considered NOT received and put us on deferred to Reg. admission
