Rutgers University Class of 2025 Discussion Thread

DD also waiting on RBS NB but is more interested in SAS now.

Any chance of decisions releasing tonight?

I hope they do.

Rutgers web site did say it will update at night Monday to Friday but who knows. Good Luck

Does anyone knows how many nursing students apply and how many gets accepted?

Give an update if offered a merit scholarship.

Does anyone know NB Engineering acceptance rate?

For those asking about Honors and Merit -

I looked back at our files - when our DD received an invitation to the Honors College (which can only be offered to freshman) it was in February. With the HC invite (a link to an Honors College portal) came a merit scholarship but the amount varies even among the same student. For example, a student may be invited to the HC for Arts and Sciences and also for Engineering, but the scholarship amount can be different for each. For others, the HC invite may be attached to only one of their schools but not the other, itā€™s an independent decision for each.

For the Honors Programs (which can be joined in any year) those came later but canā€™t remember when/we donā€™t have record of it. Hope this is helpful for those waiting to hear.

When you say invited - is this the invitation to apply to the Honors College or are you automatically considered for the Honors College when you apply to Rutgers and they invite based off your stats?

When applying to Rutgers on their application, did anyone get to explain their extracurricular activities in depth? Like I feel like they only asked for leadership positions, so what do they look at for merit scholarships and Honors? They donā€™t accept resumes, so there wasnā€™t a chance to explain them like it allows on the Common App.

You are automatically considered for the Honors College and my understanding is that your entire application is considered, but I would guess GPA and test scores are of course major factors. I think the average SAT for last yearā€™s HC was 1540? Of course, it will be different this year given all the changes due to the pandemic.

The Honors College is about 500 of the incoming class I think and it is meant to be a slice across the university and bring together the top students from different disciplines. Thatā€™s why you may be invited for one major but not another - because they are trying to strike a balance. The HC Dorm for freshman is also part of the effort to bring together the different areas of study.

Great, thank you so much for the information.

Great information. Thanks for sharing.

It doesnā€™t make sense why the scholarship amounts would differ.

Iā€™d guess primarily your transcript. Iā€™m not sure how much standardized tests would factor since it would be optional this year.

Every college gives their own scholarships. Itā€™s very enlightening to see where you/your student ranks in each. My sonā€™s (2018) ranged from $0 to $13,000.

Merit scholarships are used to attract certain students to the school and influence their decision. If they offer one for more school than another, then I would assume itā€™s because they were encouraging her to choose one school over another (maybe the other program was full and they were hoping she would consider the other, maybe her the strengths of her transcript were more well suited to one major) the other program was also more expensive, so maybe they were offering merit to get to the same ā€œout-of-pocketā€ expense to the student?

We rarely learn the ā€œformulaā€ for why it is offered or the amount, they have a much bigger picture they are working towards and that one student is just one small piece of a much bigger puzzle.

Maybe a school was $0 because it does not give any merit scholarship.

@Yankeefan20 It was 3 Rutgers NB schools - pharmacy, engineering, and SAS. I donā€™t know if EMSOP gives merit, but I know some people got into the honors college for it that year.

@universitymom67 Iā€™m just talking about Rutgers. You apply to up to 3 and get 3 different decisions and awards.
