Why would covid prevent some from committing to a school in a different state?
Financial reasons
Some have posted that out-of-state schools cost them less than schools in their state.
With the way things changed from last year at this time, many do not want to commit until it gets closer. Cost is a huge factor, but so is a schoolâs response to Covid and the way a student feels about online classes. Many will be waiting until the last possible minute to decide. Who knows what can happen in the next 3-4 months?

OOS tuition is higher than in state, some are offered enough merit to bring it down to in state tuition, rarely more (and if they receive more their stats would most likely result in merit from in state schools, so in most cases in state is the cheapest option with similar ranked colleges). Two things, if classes are mostly going to be remote, some will just chose the least expensive option. The northeast colleges seem to have been more conservative than other regions with their covid response. Other areas have had more students back on campus and in classes in person. I think a lot of students will wait and see how the spring semester plays out before making decisions.

One thing about Rutgers that is different with most other schools is that you can apply to multiple schools within Rutgers and get accepted into multiple.

It all depends on the individual. Some prefer in person classes, some prefer remote learning. No matter which side you are on, it will most likely be a factor.
personally, my thoughts are that there are going to be less out of state applications to rutgers but an increase in in state applications because of covid

rutgers seems like they push a lot of decisions Thursday and Friday, so hoping for something in the upcoming days!!

Yeah, honestly I think weâre all used to waiting by now so Iâm not gonna get disappointed if nothing comes back this week. Everything will happen in our favor, just keep positive thoughts!! Good luck to everyone
