Rutgers University New Brunswick Early Action for Fall 2023

Admitted to NB SAS! I’m very, very happy! Congrats to those who also received an acceptance, and good luck to those who were deferred or are still waiting. My friend got deferred last year, yet she still got in. Don’t lose hope. Also, thank you to everyone who’s contributed to this thread- it’s been very helpful.

Did the financial aid information also come out? If so, where can we find this info?

Admitted business, rejected engineering. 3.4 UW/4.2 W, 1430 SAT, full IB. Son has other good engineering options so probably a pass.

I guess we missed the memo to apply to ONLY to Rutgers NB schools: SAS Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Business. For some odd reason, that seems to be the bulk of CS acceptances in this thread despite very little overlap between the three.

Accepted in CS, 3.7 UW, 1530 SAT, 6 APs.

Posting this so next year’s students don’t make the same mistake. If NB is your top choice, apply to only NB. As seen above for Comp Sci, apply to CS, Comp Engineering, and Business. Despite claims Rutgers makes decisions independently, it clearly does not appear to be the case.

Just confirmed through Naviance raw data (taken from JSON in web inspector) that the scattergram data for our school goes covers 2014-2022. The scattergram data also contains nearly 3000 applications (2914) and of those only 4 students with a higher GPA/SAT score than my son have not been accepted.

I would love to hear from those students if they applied to Newark and/or Camden because this otherwise it makes no sense. The raw data shows students with much lower GPAs and SATs being accepted.

When we applied, we looked at the scattergram and thought, Woah! what happened here with these stronger students and thought it must have been some oddity, like lack of ECs or a behavioral thing, or drop in academics. Now can’t help to think it was because they applied to Camden/Newark because there are neither on my son’s application.

Scattergram:

Scattergram Data showing a 1050 SAT/3.33 GPA being accepted (not my son):

More Scattergram Data showing lower SAT/GPA being accepted (not my son):

More Scattergram Data showing total applications (2914) accepted and average GPA accepted (3.38 uw) and average SAT (1370.2) accepted. Notable that the average GPA for SAT submissions accepted (3.52 uw) is higher than the average GPA (which includes ACT and TO).

Here is the Scattegram Data for Weighted GPA (average 5.58) and SAT (1369.55):

Congrats to all that were accepted! Didn’t mean to kill the thread.

FWIW, Son was accepted to 20 other schools so far with over $1 million in scholarship offers, so plenty of options. All apps so far that issued decisions were acceptances, besides Villanova (which we didn’t expect) and Rutgers. Sure, we’ll get more denials over the next month as his reach schools issue decisions.

If it is not meant to be, that is okay. We know he’ll end up where he was meant to be. And for those going on to Rutgers best of wishes in your path as a Scarlet Knight!!!

I think its worth a call to admissions and ask. My son doesnt have the most stellar stats on paper, especially when looking at all the others upthread: OOS, 28 ACT, 4.16 weighted, 4 APs (to which he only started taking this year), 380 hrs community service/dual work-study program. He and his friend were accepted to NB SEBS and Newark.

Your son sounds amazing and should be extremely proud of his accomplishments!

Thank you!

Is Rutgers first come first serve with housing? Is the housing deposit tied to committing?

Anyone know the times for the admitted student open house on 4/1? What’s the difference between the open house and admitted student tours?

Thanks!

Your son sounds amazing and he absolutely was shut out at NB for some internal reasons like admitted to Camden. As I said earlier a couple of my son’s friends experienced the same. Got deferred after getting Newark admit.
Maybe the school counselor can call RU admissions and ask why such a qualified student was deferred?

Anyone have any idea when the Mason school of arts release results ?

Son admitted late last night into NB Engineering. Anyone know if they get an official letter or something. Very anti-climactic.
