Safe Tea

Hello. I hate to start more than one thread in an evening... but anything to avoid my homework... which is staring, staring at me.

Anyway, I have a pretty long list of colleges I'm interested in. Unfortunately, they're all reach/match schools. Oops, yes? Well, I'm a junior; I've got time to think about it. Still, I figure I should start finding safeties.

I've already asked this question, a long, long time ago (I can still remember), but I didn't get the best replies. :P Let's try again, shall we?

Let's see. I want an exciting location, very near a city or in one (but with a proper campus with proper college buildings). I want to be able to at least minor in linguistics (I know I may change my mind when I get to college, but I want that option to be there if I choose to pursue that interest). I'm not into the frat scene or partying; my only love is learning (ha ha). I would like mostly small classes mostly taught by professors; smart & cool kids who listen to good music; trees, grass; plentiful study abroad options; and last, but not least, good food. All those things in one place? you may be asking yourself; well, maybe not, but I can dream.

Brief stats: IB diploma candidate, good test scores (2260/34), good grades (top 1%), pretty abysmal ECs (very few, no leadership positions). So I'm academically set (but no genius) and otherwise average.

I'll apply to CU-Boulder (in-state), but I want a safety that I'll actually like. Suggestions? Greatly appreciated, my friends!

University of Chicago would suit you very well.

I consulted Rugg, and Boston U., Brandeis, UCLA, UCB, UCSan Diego, U of Chicago, U Md, USC, and Michigan seem to fit the linguistics and city criteria. All are suitable for students who love to learn. Tulane is another school with a good linguistics program, but it's hard to know when they will be back on their feet.

UCLA and UCB are not safeties for you, being out of state.

Yeah... I don't think any of those are safeties for me.... =/ Thanks for the suggestions, though! Keep 'em coming.

If you are interested in LACs, here are three that appear to satisfy your criteria. . .

Macalester - strong match
Reed - almost a safety, though there may be changes coming to linguistics there
Beloit - definitely a safety

I internet-love Macalester and Reed. I'll be visiting both eventually; I hope I like them.

Oh, and what do you mean, exactly, about changes in linguistics at Reed?

Re: Beloit: :D.

Thanks revy chum.
