Safeties needed here!

Wow, it seems like soo many people need safeties suggestions, well, I'm no exception. Here's my list of colleges so far (I live in MD btw):

Princeton, JHU, Washington and Lee.

My numbers are like, average (and in a few cases above and below average) for the top top schools like Princeton and JHU:

GPA: 3.95 UW Rank: 28/504 UW, 9/504 W
SATs: 760 Math, 710 Writing, 680 Reading, 2150 combined
SAT IIs: 770 Math IC, 770 Chemistry, 650 US History (that one's gna hurt)

Junior Year APs (I haven't gotten scores yet):

English Language, US History, Chemistry, Calculus BC (expecting 5,3,5,4/5sub, respectively)

Projected Senior APs:

English Literature, Biology, Physics: Mechanics

ECs:

Mock Trial (9,10,11), All-County Lawyer 11th grade
Varsity Swimming (10,11), Rookie of the Year, Will to Win award, school record holder

Piano (for 12 years), performed 3 solo recitals, one performance in China, been hired to do other things like weddings.

Piano Instructor (9,10,11)
Mathcounts tutor (9,10)

about 90 hours of volunteer work

Internship with the National Cancer Institute.

Sorry for the long list, but I appreciate your help!

what do you want to major in?

I think the standard safety is your large, public state school--it would be an absolute worst-case scenario I think, but you never know. My state school was my safety--UGA.

I want to be a science major (with the premed requirements) so most likely something like cellular/molecular biology, biochemistry, etc.

You need matches as well as safeties. Princeton is a reach for anyone, and the other two are match/reach at best.

Since you have a large, medium, and a small school on your list and your academic interests are not terribly unique, I would consider schools like Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Colgate and Bucknell to be matches. U of Maryland and Furman would be good safeties.

At smaller schools, check the science offerings to make sure they have the courses you are interested in.

Might look at Holy Cross, Bowdoin or Trinity. If interested in a good location Holy Cross is 1 hour from Boston.

yeah you can easily use UMBC or UMCP for your safety or an easier to get in to private school...you can't expect people to tell you where to go unless you tell them more about you than your stats...what do you WANT from a school? location? size? etc.?

Look at Colgate as a solid match

Univ. or MD, St Mary's campus is a public honors program and might be a good safety for you. Although not really a "safety", University of Rochester is easier to get into than some of the others you are looking at. Also look at Wesleyan and Cornell.

par: Bowdoin definitely wouldn't be a safety, or really even a true match for the OP.
