For the renting purposes could you please tell which areas outside or near the UChicago campus are considered to be more dangerous than the other?
Help will be much appreciated!
Better to look at the crime stats which are available online, but the only area I would hesitate on is west of Washington Park, and that is a ways away from campus.

You are about to be a first-year student, no? Which means you will be living on campus for 9 months or so. Long before you have to make any decisions about renting, you will know much, much more about Hyde Park, its surrounding neighborhoods, and their rental market than you could possibly learn here. You will hear all sorts of conflicting opinions. You will talk to people you know about their actual experiences. You will probably spend time in various off-campus apartments in different areas.
So why obsess about this now? As a basic matter, very few (if any) students live in areas that aren’t pretty safe for students. If/when you move off campus, you’ll live in an area that’s pretty safe for students (or safer), just like everyone else.
