Hi-
I am looking for good safety’s(non-audition)for my MT daughter. She also loves straight up Acting. She will be a Junior
next year. She is loving Emerson Pre-college MT this summer. Great student …talented and will be auditioning for BFA programs but reading about all the rejection and competition is freaking me out. I am looking for safety schools in the Northeast for her list. Theatre is everything to her. She’s beautiful and talented (strong dance background) but I’m her Mom and am not objective. Will be getting coach but need safety’s. Would welcome any advice. Thank you.

bfa needs audition ba does not…just admittance to the university.
“She’s beautiful and talented (strong dance background) but I’m her Mom and am not objective.”
I love this sentence! It is so true. I feel the same way about mine
I’m not sure where you live (or where you really are looking geographically) but a number of SUNY schools admit without auditions, as well as a couple of CUNY schools. This is great if you happen to live in NY (form a tuition perspective).
I wish that I did. I am an ex New Yorker now in Danbury CT. Is your daughter a Junior or Senior ? I love many of the SUNY schools !!
It’s true though, right? How the heck can we be objective about the chances of our child? They are glorious to us !!
We just began using MTCA because I am a single Mom and completely out of my depth. We will use them judiciously as $$ is a very real issue.
I don’t want this experience to become overwhelming for her. That is my biggest fear because it already overwhelms me!! Nice to meet you !
You too! Sorry, I’ve been on a ‘break’ from here, and from touring schools. She is a junior, so now that all her senior friends have auditioned (and are anxiously waiting) we need to get back on this! I think as their acceptances roll in, we’ll get a better idea of what is ‘safe’ or not (but again, all things are objective). I recently chatted with a friend (whose child is friends with mine), a college freshman. She originally auctioned for all MT majors, has an amazing voice (not being subjective here, I’m pretty good about judging my kids’ friends), and got into nothing. Her mom and her surmised that it was something about her appearance (as per mom, a ‘certain look’) and/or her very specific type of voice. She ended up switching interests at the 11th hour to music education, and got into a really good school (which required an audition). So this bit of info is either going to scare my kid more, or make her work harder (and either way, stress more!)
Looking at MTCA site now… had no idea it existed. Thanks!
Honestly…I love them. I mean not only are they great but they come from a truly human and kind place plus their coaches are working actors (well trained and exceptional). I can’t recommend them highly enough. Feel free to PM me. Also following the few Senior friends doing this. One was my D’s roommate last summer. One of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard. Genuinely sweet girl and a triple threat. She is having lots of success but I know others ( lovely and talented) who are not getting in anywhere …others nervously waiting to hear. My D is equally interested in acting programs and I really think getting a strong safety or two… a non-audition,strong theatre, good feel to your child school nailed down early could make this entire circus of a process easier on them. It is scary and overwhelming for both parents and kids…
