Safety Schools

Alright, just about finished with my college list to which I may apply to, but I still need to figure out a good yet safe school to get into...

I intend to major in economics, and I got a solid GPA..

This is my list:

Brown
Columbia
Cornell
U Michigan
UCLA
U Virgina
(insert safety school here)

Please advise me on any college who is not extremely selective, but has a strong econ program! Thanks!

University of Washington
University of Maryland
Michigan State
Texas A&M
Purdue
Ohio State
Iowa
Pittsburgh
Virginia Tech
Iowa State

Most of these schools aren’t a breeze to get in to, but if you are an Ivy level student, you should have not problem getting admitted. They also have good econ programs.

There are two categories of Safety Schools:

Academic Safety - you are guaranteed admission based on your grades and test scores.

Financial Safety - you can pay for it out of pocket with no aid other than federally determined (FAFSA) financial aid if you are a US candidate. If you are an international candidate you would need to be able to pay for it out of pocket or with guaranteed aid from your home country.

An Academic Safety isn’t necessarily affordable, and a Financial Safety isn’t necessarily a place where you can be admitted. In an ideal world, you would pin down a place (or two) that not only meets both of those requirements, but that also offers your major and you are willing to attend if all else goes wrong in the admissions process - a school that could be considered your True Safety.
