nhfootballer....no offense taken. I do think, though, that it is easy to assume that because a school has a higher acceptance rate, it may somehow be "not as good...i.e. academically challenging". We have found that this is simply not the case.
We are also from NH, and I feel quite confident that my son's bs exceeds the standards and opportunities of any of our public hs.
You are correct, of course, that one would only apply to a school that is the "right fit". My older son interviewed at St. Paul's and Exeter, as well as visiting pretty much every other school in New England (well at least a dozen). He knew NMH was for him the first day he visited and my younger son felt the same. Fit really is the big factor.

It's funny because I had originally written after "typically easier to get in" that it didn't mean that the school wasn't as good academically or that it wasn't the best place for many people.

When all is said and done, we will have visited 12 schools. We have found some that are perfect for our son, some that are completely not, some that are in between. I may have said this before but one admissions person told us that there are three kinds of schools: 1 - You can't wait to start attending** 2** - You can see yourself there doing well and being happy 3 - you can't get off campus fast enough. A couple of the schools of the second type for us we are pretty certain he'll get in. But...there was no spark. So, we decided to add 2 more visits. For us, we needed a "spark."

keylyme, my dad has a friend with a son at NMH. he plays football and baskeball. i think he is a junior there. anyway, this family friend loves the school and that is what matters. their matriculation list also looks good:

Northfield Mount Hermon : Matriculation List

i have been contacted by some coaches there. i agree with you. there are many good schools out there besides the usual ones mentioned here. i took this forum seriously at first because everyone has 95% SSAT scores, etc. but i slept better once i got some good private message advice here. i am happy with my school selection.

the hard part is hearing of other places then wondering. loomis has been like that. i have some people praising the place and even have the materials. makes me reconsider but my work is done. SSAT taken. apps mailed on tuesday. all in god's hands now. march will be here soon.

ugh, just the thought of march makes me nervous...

Who wants to bet that I wont get accepted into a single school and get my feelings crushed? Now I get to spend 12 more months with the 400 freshman who will always know me as the girl who broke her leg falling from the monkey bars in 2nd grade...and then who fractured her skull while smacking into the poll when she tried to stand-up.
The life of Crickett...fabulous, isn't it?

nhfootballer...I think you have great chances for getting in to your top picks. If you interview at all like you write, I can't imagine you being turned away anywhere! Best to you.

its not the end of the world if you dont get in anywhere. try again the next year

haha crickett! your post made me laugh! I will probably be with you in the gettingrejected-from-everywhere boat, haha! i'm really scared about that too! and hockeygirl, i don't know about crickett but i know that there's no way my parents would let me apply again next year! this is my one shot, i hope it all works out!

Pshaw. Our boat= The S.S. Depression.

This is my only chance, as well. How embarassing would it be to tell my Geometry and English teachers as well as ALL of my friends that I'm to stupid to go to an elite school. Lovely.

Ahhhh I'm so scared, too! I won't even want to open my envelopes when I get them. I think I will cry if I don't have a big, packed envelope and have a small envelope just beckoning to be opened only to find a small sheet of paper beginning, "We are sorry to say..." Ugh...

I had a dream/NIGHTMARE, that my letters came Hogwarts style. They flooded my house and they were all skinny.

Lately I've been feeling like my life revolves around the application process. I studied for the SSATs for about an hour or two a day for about a month. It obviously worked out (I'm still ecstatic about my 97% total and 99% math). Everytime I go on the computer I check on this website and the websites of the schools that I am applying for. Every other thought through my head is about the applications and whether or not I will get in. Argh. I cannot wait for March 10. To say the least.

Nelly, have you looked at Peddie?

Also, Ashbury College is a boarding school in Ottawa, Canada. I'm probably applying there and it has decent financial aid.

There's also Havergal in Toronto, but it's all girls. It's an AMAZING school. I think Purpoisepal applied there.

thanks you guys!

that's funny about the nightmare! i confess i might have gone to boarding school review and typed in "hogwarts" to the 'search for a boarding school place', unfortunatly, they didn't have it listed....hahaha.

agaasba (whatever your names is) i am quite sick of trying to remember you nme already so i will be calling you BAGS, because there is a b,a,g and s in that name. so if you don't like it, give me something short to call you or else i'm just going to call you that, lol. but anyway, i totally agree with you, it seems like the only thing i think about is bs, if i get rejected to all these schools i will be HEARTBROKEN!!! (sob, sob)

Bags is good.
Yeah, I'm really bad at thinking of names for websites like these.
It stands for Angora GoatS And Angora BunnieS. It's an inside joke. Don't ask it's weird.

wow, that's the funniest name i've evry heard! i can call you bunny, if you'd like..

and now i have to wait 35 seconds to post this, i'm getting so sick of that rule....16 seconds....10 seconds....bleh...1 second...gosh, what's the point of even telling me that, why don't they just post it allready?!

Bunny is good, too. I know, I hate that rule, too.

Bunny it is.

McskittlZ10, i go to a suburban public school right now and I hate it, it is dirty, and it is safe though, but why would it matter if it is safe or not?

"safety" school, Smart One, somehwere where you'll get in easily. and this thread is really old, so it doesn't matter anyway. :)
