My son applied for and received an internship through SAGE Corps this summer. The program pairs college students with an international startup for the summer. This summer, of course, the students will not be traveling, but are still able to intern virtually. I’ve been doing research and there are limited reviews on the program. The good news is that almost all the reviews out there are positive (although sometimes someone affiliated with SAGE Corps responds). But the bad news is that there just isn’t as much information on the program as I would expect.
I’m inclined to support my son’s participation–especially this summer where I think summer jobs and internships will be extremely limited. So it seems like a potentially really positive way for him to spend his summer, considering the alternatives. Is there anyone (parent or student) who has actual experience with SAGE and can share their feedback (please–no one affiliated with SAGE)? Thanks very much.
Hi FlyerDad! My name is Sam and I went to Dublin last summer with Sage Corps. It was hands down the most amazing experience I have had! Not only getting a chance to connect with the culture and the city but also making life long friends with the other fellows!
I interned with a company that had not yet launched yet, so I was given a wide variety of tasks that challenged me in the best ways possible. I am still in contact with my boss and have a lifelong connection with that company and Ireland as a whole.
I did the program because my older brother went to Germany the Summer before! Through his internship he discovered his love for real estate appraisal and evaluation and now works for a firm doing just that in Seattle!! He went not really knowing what he wanted to do and now LOVES his job.
When I was in Dublin I also had a couple friends who were in Amsterdam doing internships through Sage Corps as well. I got to go visit them at the end of the summer and watching them walk around the city it was clear that they had found a new home.
My best friend at school was accepted for this summer as well and has decided to do the remote internship! I am confident that there will be plenty of virtual events and professional development opportunities because Sage Corps is dedicated to the future of their fellows. The CEO Matt Meltzer has put me in contact with alum in fields that in fields and companies that I am interested in just so I can chat and get questions answered. The program not only gives you great work experience, but helps you grow as a professional and an individual! I have personally recommended A LOT of my friends and think anyone can benefit from this experience.
It is an AMAZING program and it helped me and so many of my friends discover who they are and what they’re interested in! I would love to chat more about my story, or answer any questions you have
Hi Sam: Thanks very much for your response! My son is still considering his options and is looking at some other opportunities (I think paying for an internship concerns him a bit and is not consistent with his University’s career center guidelines). I may reach out to you once he has a clearer idea of what he wants for his summer plans. I really appreciate your reaching out.
