SAIC vs. RISD for fine arts

Hi guys!

I'm debating between the two schools (RISD and SAIC) for my BFA fine arts major 0.0
What gets me a bit iffy in this decision is that I received a presidential scholarship from SAIC along with financial aid (so roughly 98,100 ) dollars total for SAIC.

I guess I approach my art in a more abstract/conceptual way, but the technique i usually draw and paint is mostly more technically focused..so kind of like a mc. Escher/dali kind of style. I also want to major in fine arts (painting) but also want to get a minor too in sculpture.. I'm stuck between the two schools. RISD on the other hand is highly regarded and well known as one of the best art schools with a pretty strict/stable curriculum that I heard is more technical based while SAIC on the other hand is more abstract/conceptual in their teachings and is pretty flexible within the different majors...ugh...I don't know what school to choose..I am blessed to be able to afford both schools' educations, but a side of me is saying that it's kind of regretful to throw away that huge amount of scholarship money that was given...

yeah I currently go to RISD and let me tell you something: nothing is TECHNICAL based. The teachers honestly don’t care how well you draw or render or your skills. Its all about CONCEPT. and by concept they mean the bull that kids put toogether the night before without any thought. Don’t get me wrong RISD is great, but if you love technical skill and craftsmanship its not for you. It takes skill to go here but you would neveer know by the students work but that’s may only be because its foundation year.

I wouldn’t say that RISD is not technical. Many teachers do care about both craftsmanship and concept, some emphasizing one over the other. I know of a couple of drawing teachers that have some very technical drawings, and I know that a lot of design and 3D teachers care about your craftsmanship (at least 3/4 of mine did when I was in foundation year) To decide, I would look up some of the student work. RISD’s is portfolios.risd.edu
