<p>I remember long ago telling D that the thing about art is that you can create what you want, but people are only going to buy what they like and then ONLY if they have discretionary money. My way of saying you can be fabulous, but if people don’t understand or desire your kind of art, you’ll need another source of income. I think I would not spent my discretionary income on this one…</p>
<p>thing is, I can’t nor won’t buy his work but seriously, love these works!!
thank you Dallas. I’d never know!!!
scrawl down to the one, a guy in Picasso mask?

<p>Bears - I love your info, but can’t keep up with you! So, please don’t take offense that I don’t respond with the same frequency as your posts!</p>
<p>no problem mom4 and no pressure.
streak is now broken…
and
everyone else got life, or real dayjob to do.
but honestly, Dallas is the place to be!!!
or else TX.</p>
<p>Hi Bears
Should have checked in at 4 when I got up!
I think it’s fascinating that the school with the
biggest conceptual bent will be receiving such a large
donation from the past student with the most flowery
pastel-coated painting style. Fascinating and great for SAIC.</p>
<p>My dd did ECP at SAIC last summer and loved the program. She most likely will not apply to SAIC, as it just doesn’t have the student centric feel she wanted. The student center when it opens will be a help to SAIC. Thanks for the article Bears. You are great at finding info! It is really helpful.</p>
<p>thanx folks
I am just cut/pasting away when I see anything TX or other interest from art e-newsletter comes in everyday.
now that smarty mentioned, I did look up

he is a sports painter, but this is some awful Sandy Kofax. he looks like Japanese cartoon ballplayer. (namely, ‘the Star of the Giants’)

I bet SAIC can’t say “thank you for the money but no thank you your happy colorful somewhat figurative artwork, we don’t do this sort anymore, you know?”
I mean, the guy is 90 years old!! b.1921. let him have his way!!
wiki says he lives in this artist hotel penthouse on the central park!!
must have figured by now that totally loaded but can’t take it with him. no kids, grandkids, no foundation? I will look up.</p>
<p>I went to see John Chamberlain b.1927 at Gagosian.
just switched from Pace to Gagosian and funny they are both showing at the same time few blocks apart!!
I think, once established artist figure out how many more years they got, they out to do something haven’t done before too late. to built legacy.</p>
<p>so was awful drawing show of Richard Serra b.1939 at the Met.
huge black (paint stick) sheets are just that, stapled onto wall here there, and labeled as “private collection” but it also is site specific.
what that supposed to mean?
did Mr Serra came and stapled tar paper on the wall himself or painted it there and then? and it is already in hands of collectors before the Met even opened for viewing?
I don’t want to be right about this, because I want every grandpa artist to be like Calder or Picasso, but gosh, do I smell desperation?</p>
<p>[The</a> MFA Houston Selects Three Architecture Firms to Submit Design Proposals for an Expanded MFAH](<a href=“http://www.artdaily.org/index.asp?int_sec=2&int_new=47774]The”>http://www.artdaily.org/index.asp?int_sec=2&int_new=47774)
so is this how things are done in architecture?
the museum looks for the firm, interview them like year long to pick three contestant to submit conceptual design proposals ( is what? drawings, model, image rendering? how much research had to be done, like do they have to know it really works and how much it cost etc?)
supposedly the board picks the best (workable, affordable, good looking, outrageous?)one.
at which point does architectural firm get payed if anything? for proposal? only for the winner? once they are half way built?
at which point star architect get payed? have to be up front, I bet.
…
and I thought making three bears in different materials or colors so the non imaginative non-bear making client could actually see it and pick from the pack without extra design/sample making fee, are too much of work to do.
12 inch stuffed bear and the museum that hosts 63,000 plus objects shouldn’t be put on equal terms but yet…
it is a hard work, man. work is work. no play.
enjoy your time while you are students, brimming with possibilities. dream, big one.</p>
<p>the forum is pretty much dead for the holiday. I am talking to my bear paws and it’s OK.</p>
<p>Hey bears, You’re not alone, I’m here too - H is working, D is at boyfriends. Only thing to do is clean house or cruise around CC! Guess what I choose??</p>
<p>hey mombug
aren’t we pathetic or what? I just started war with RISD wannabe/26 year old Brown grad.
really, what is it in me, as the kid said in his/ her post LOL</p>
<p>Hi guys work break for me. The problem with working from “home” is that I’m always working.</p>
<p>Bears
I just mounted a vigorous defense on your behalf over on that other post</p>
<p>so…
am I pathetic or what?
OK
back to bears and demons.</p>
<p>No you are definitely not pathetic
I think your growl just frightened her a bit</p>
<p>Reading this reminds me of a scene in the movies where the character says “You know I can still hear you”. :-)</p>
<p>mom4
you outa visit the screen writing thread and add on to P3T(Muse)'s two cents!</p>
<p>Is that the Good Schools for TV Screenwriting one? Yikes! Looked thru it and I’m gonna stay away! Know nothing on the subject and there is anger there…</p>
<p>I’m going to make a trip to see the push broom and let you know. Looked at the artist’s work in the link you supplied and he is definitely interesting. See, you are opening minds!</p>
<p>he is some character!!
I looked in bookstore and Menil collection had show of him paired with his picks of works by other artist from Menil’s holdings back in 2010. sort of they let him run the place, more like.
and the broom was in the published catalogue. Menil people must have really liked that broom…</p>
