@MYOS1634, D’s stats are not good enough (low 3 gpa and low 20s ACT) to get merit at public universities. How she got in to Olaf… just a miracle.
Her music did it I think (she was a music finalist and auditioned in person a while back, haven’t heard results).
Had difficult talk and she understands that the chances of a decent livelihood with a B.M. degree is very slim. I wish she hadn’t been accepted as there is no way except super major debt for her and me. Community College plus the last couple years at a state U are good enough.
From what I see, the music scholarships (or any scholarships) don’t help at all since the EFC is sorta highish. (seems that scholarships only actually help ‘full pay students’ i.e. don’t cut into EFC)
Debt chains you to your debtor. Debt is slavery. So, for the folks on the waiting list, one will get in due to D not going.
Just joining thread. My D got in to Olaf and offered $40,000 merit scholarship over 4 years (didn’t qualify for FA). She absolutely loves the school so we’re super excited. Got same offer from Whitman College. Waiting for rest, but Olaf was her top choice. Now for overnights and revisits to close the deal. Congrats to everyone who got in, and for those waitlisted, don’t give up hope, stay on them.
My D got into St. Olaf and is excited but we haven’t received any financial info. I’m wondering if because others here know about their merit aid if that means that she didn’t get any. She got a great package at University of Oregon (our local state school). They’re telling us to wait until March 20 for financial aid.
@SaSame At the financial aid presentation we attended during the Fine Arts Scholarship weekend we were told they were aiming to get financial aid packages out by 3/19. I believe the only notifications out so far are for the top scholarships (Buntrock, Presidential etc) that they give to their top candidates early hoping to get them excited about St Olaf before they receive offers from competing schools.
Anyone here had experience with waitlist could advise me on what kind of additional information I could send the school? Haven’t had a good news this far and being on the wait list is kind of my only hope, though I know chances of getting in is still slim.
We just did one for a waitlist for another school. We mentioned a math award my D got recently, a promotion to 1st chair in one of her orchestras and a local concert she is playing in with a celebrity. Just examples but you could list anything from a sports accomplishment to a grade improvement at school. Also list any new interesting extracurricular stuff or volunteer stuff. Good luck. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Is financial aid information currently available??
Am I the only one who have not yet received any notifications??
I am afraid it means no financial aid…
Hello everyone and congratulations on your acceptances! I am wondering if anyone has received a financial aid notification. I haven’t and I am afraid if that indicates that I am going to get none. They said the package will be emailed by mid-march.
I am wondering about financial aid as well. It is past “the middle of March” and St. Olaf keeps sending information about admitted student visits in two weeks. I don’t think we are the only family unwilling to make travel plans until we know if St. O is a financial possibility. We have decisions from all of her other admitted schools. We have made plans to visit top contenders–why wouldn’t St, Olaf push out that info? Just about too late…
@bobo44 I received an email about my financial aid this morning. One of the admins (Maggie) also made a post about how to access your financial aid a few days ago in the admitted students Facebook page. Check it out there!
Has anyone received wait-list result yet? I applied for ED 2, then deferred to RD, and then waitlist. I pay deposit to another university, and I’m pretty sure that I will be rejected. However, I still want to receive the result.
Hi, friends! I was in the waitlisted. I just got a call from them today said that I got the acceptance, but my portal does not have any information updated yet. Good luck to you~(I really was not expecting that since I have a very low EFC)
My GPA is 3.88 but my ACT is extremely low (a 22). I do not even have a lot of EAs, plus I did not write the community service essay. I can’t tell you how surprised I was when they called me. I received the updated in the portal and financial aid letter now. Good luck friend, I hope I can see you there.
