What's the pay like for ChemEs outside of oil & gas? I've always thought that average ChemE salaries are skewed due to the salaries from petroleum engineering. I'm just wondering, if I want to make good money, do I have to go the oil & gas route?

Keep in mind the salaries in the energy sector are so ridiculous - 70-80K starting and 100K+ with a few years experience - anything else would seems like paltry sum. Most jobs in the chemical process industries start off at 55K/year.

That IS ridiculous! I suppose I shouldn't put moving to Alberta out of the picture just yet.

Anyone else has information on this matter?

A friend of mine with a MS in chemE went the pharmaceutical route and got $70k+.
